Analysis of Carpenter's performance in Giants Game

Normally you would expect a little more from a first round pick. However, a middle first round pick is more of a chance nowadays. Look at the difference between Ware and Spears. Both 1st rounders that are definitely progressing at different rates. It's a tough spot to be in draft wise. Carp is doing a decent job considering what he is being asked to do. I do see him improving from week to week. I believe he will improve even more next season. But for now, I do think he is struggling at times but so are other players. Roy Williams in certain coverages, TO with catching the ball, former Cowboy Vanderjagt with his consistency, Spears and Canty with consistent production (Spears was double and even triple teamed vs. the NYG at times), Overall we can trust that BP and Zim will have the team ready to play to the best of their abilities week to week. I think that is obvious!

Our defense played better when Carpenter was in there as opposed to when Singleton was at outside LB...he should be playing more than he has been.

I hate to say it, but for a first rounder, Carpenter IS a bust.

I actually think that Carpenter needs to slim down a tad bit, maybe 5 to 7 pounds, it would help his quickness.

I don't buy it. He is already strong and conditioned. He needs to improve his technique, and frankly, he needs to get a mean streak in him. He looks intimidated out there, and I understand that, he's a rookie.

It looks like he's so worried about making a mistake that it's hindering him from making a play. Just play football kid, and worry about the mistakes during film session.

That is what 1st year players do. Think everything through. Next year it will become 2nd nature, and you will see a big improvement.
Besides, Romo wasn't built in a day, it took 3 years.

5:39 2nd - Covers Shockey in slot. Contact knocks Shockey down.

4:51 2nd - Enganges RT and is pushed back. Tiki runs outside and Newman makes contact as BC disengages RT and makes tackle.

4:19 2nd - Shockey throws him to the ground. Run play opposite side.

3:40 2nd - Driven backwards by a WR. Tiki bounces out and picks up 15.

2:59 2nd - Speed rushes outside of RT. Manning steps up. No pressure.

2:52 2nd - Engages RG and holds his ground. Barber runs into the back of the RG for no gain.

1:19 2nd - Run play to opposite side. Unblocked. (This was the Brandon Jacobs 4th down tackle for a loss by Ware).

11:54 4th - Engages RT. Holds ground. No pressure.

11:25 4th - Run play opposite side. Blocked out of play.

10:41 4th - Engages RT and doesn't disengage as Jacobs runs to his inside.

9:58 4th - Gets through unblocked (7-man blitz). BC and about 3 other defenders get pressure on Manning as he throws it away.

1:42 4th - Covers Shockey in the flat. Throw opposite side.

1:11 4th - Covers WR in the slot. Throw opposite side (Burress TD).
