Anatomy of the wildest 7 minutes of an NFL game I've ever seen

I understand any Cowboys fan’s excitement over winning in Washington Sunday and I fault no one for being excited to get a win. But when I look back on what happened late in the 4th quarter, this was as freakish a NFL game as I’ve ever seen. It’s very hard for me to suddenly believe this team is any different than what we thought a week before. But a win is a win in the NFL…right?

Honestly, the final score was completely deceptive of the kind of game that was. It was really a game where the defense played pretty well while the offense was pretty mediocre at best. The game really came down to the last 7 min. Look at how crazy this sequence was:
  • At the end of the third qtr, the score was 10-9 Dallas.
  • With just over 7 min left in the game, it was 13-9 Cowboys, then Donovan Wilson forced a fumble, which Eric Kendricks recovered.
  • The Cowboys drove 44 yards in 5 plays with the Rush TD pass to Schoonmaker making 20-9 with just 5 min left.
  • Wash then made their long TD drive and two point conversion which made it 20-17 with 2:14 left.
  • Somehow Dan Quinn lost his mind and kicked to the best kickoff returner in football and Turpin took it home. 27-17 Dallas with 2:01 left.
  • Wash took 5 plays to get in FG range to make it 27-20 with 1: 40 left and their timeouts.
  • The Cowboys were able to milk the clock to where Wash got ball back at their own 14 with around 40 seconds and no timeouts.
  • Then, in one of the worst defensive meltdowns I’ve ever seen, Terry McLaurin somehow gets loose for an 86 yard miracle TD…and then their K shanks the PAT. 27-26 Cowboys.
  • Amazingly, on the ensuing on-sides kick, Juanyeh Thomas runs another KO back for a TD with 14 seconds left. 34-26.
That last 7 minutes of football is the craziest I‘ve ever seen. And the final score is completely deceptive. We went from 10-9 with 15 min left to a 34-26 final score. And if anyone thinks this Cowboys offense is better than it’s been…we had two TD drives- one a good 80 yard drive but the other was 44 yards after a TO.

A Cowboys win no matter how ugly is still a win. But this team is still not very good.

Jerry thinks we're better than the 90's teams! The game was crazy, just don't understand why our offense looks SOOOO Junior Varsity like, instead of like an NFL that could still do something with a backup. It's time to look for a half decent backup, someone that can help us move the ball better and get points on the board.

Problem I see with that is, if the backup is TOO good, it causes a QB controversy, which is something that the Jones family doesn't want

I periodically checked the score on my phone sitting in the deer stand. Saw 10 to 9, and then explosion of scoring in the 4th. If only the deer had been moving at that pace.

Not to completely dump on our offense…but they basically scored 20 against a defense that going into that game was ranked 18th overall and 32nd against the run. Those two kickoff returns were a gift.

I've never seen anything like it before either. But you are right, this team is still not very good.

The problem is now Jerry is convinced the season isn't over yet and we are still in it.
Yea, I think we are starting to see the real Commanders........Daniel is struggling a bit now that defensive coordinators have more tape on him.

They are showing the replay of this game on NFLN tonight. I'm going to watch it since I wasn't able to fully give my attention to the game as I was making raviolis during that time and the TV was on in the background, and I couldn't hear anything.
I want to make a deliberate sexist comment just to mess with ya….but nah. Wouldn’t risk it not being the intended fun lol.

:flagwave:

That aside, ravioli over this team is the right call these days.

Yeah...I think a dose of reality set in for the Commanders. I don't think they're as great as everyone makes them out to be.
The part that I appreciated the most….while they did have some lucky breaks….I did not get the impression they were outcoached, a feeling which I’m quite sick of.

I thought for sure it would happen in this game due to Quinn’s familiarity.

Let me guess. You were going to say "a woman's place is in the kitchen". Doesn't bother me. Normally, I don't do anything during the Cowboys games. Just ask my kids...they plan things around the Cowboys' games. LOL

This is the problem spot. Don't milk the clock just to set up a longer punt, that's poisoned thinking. Get a first down and end the game! Have some championship mindset as you close out the game!!! Prep yourself for eventual championships, however long that takes.

Trust me, being afraid to luck into a backup good enough to start in the NFL is the least of our problems.

The Cowboys scored 24 points in the fourth quarter! I still can’t believe what I saw.

Yeah something like that, but much more funny….since I’m clearly quite funny!

I host and cook most of TG and my Mom is used to me demanding that dinner is fully over with by 4pm (eastern) the latest, all revolving around the game. Spoke to her the other day and told it no longer matters. She wasn’t sure what to say.

This calendar year has finally broke me.

What's funny was my whole family decided to STOP the ravioli making process to pay attention to the last few minutes of the game!! It was unbelievable. My brother called it after Turpin got a TD that Washington was going to follow suit and score a TD of their own. And of course, Wash got the TD, and I cussed out my brother for being right!!
