And so it starts... #88

Also said in that article that Dez is actualy staying in Dallas this year and working out at the facillity - as apposed to training by himself off site (as Jenkins is doing this year - rehab.)
So Dez is under scrutiny all this off season by staff, so I do expect him to make that big step forward.... here's hopeing !

My understanding is usually takes WR's 3 years in the NFL to develop. So wouldn't that put Dez right on schedule?
Yes.
And he had an even greater disadvantage due to the injury in year 1 and the lockout in year 2.

I expect to see some great things from Dez this season. If he shows no improvement at all, then it is time to start getting concerned IMO.

The guy had a "disappointing" 2nd season and finished with 900+ yds and 9 TDs. I can easily see him finish with 1200 yds 12-15 TDs next season.

So does this mean Romo will no longer have to show him where to lineup, and now Dez can read a defense and know which route to run?

You can't have a great career running deep fades and quick hitches your whole career.

We all need remember the NFL lockout particularly affected rookies & 2nd year players & some of the older vets. While some of our players, were able function w/o training at VR, guys like Bryant drifted/got in some trouble (admittedly immature); not sure Free in same category. OTOH, players like young Sean Lee is a self motivator with a great motor (sound familiar cause isn't that what Cowboys were looking for in the draft) worked hard in the offseason both physically & mentally (studying game film) did just fine.
The lockout didn't seem to have much adverse affect on the 49ers.

Anytime I hear the lockout brought up as an excuse for the Cowboys disappointing performance in 2011, I have to wonder why the lockout hurt our "rookies & 2nd year players & some of the older vets" but not those of teams like the 49ers. Our own HC & OC had half a season under his belt, an advantage the 49ers didn't have. The 49ers got a new HC, OC, and DC.

Yet they finished 13-3.

It's all relative with Dez. Afterall, he did lead the Cowboys' WRs in total receiving yards last year.

Oh yeah, and in response the 49er jab above, that would have led the 49ers too.

And although the Cowboys rookies (like all rookies) did miss a lot of offseason work last season, they fared very well compared to most of the league. Tyron Smith and DeMarco Murray were both near the top at thie positions as rookies.

He wins the beauty contest every year, but can the beauty translate onto to the playing field?

At least we now know that he is taking the coaching and making strides this offseason and that his WR Coach (Robinson) is pressuring him to bring his offseason strides onto the field.

So if he doesn't do that (a) it won't be because of coaching, (b) and it won't be because he's been babied by the coaches; it will be because of something going on with the player himself.

If he falls short, it won't be a good outcome, but at least we'll know if he's one of those players that does not play up to his potential. In that case they can better prepare and prioritize WR in the 2013 draft.

If you ask me, this was the problem with MartyB, where the team waited too long to cut the cord, and all the while waited patiently hoping his light would come on. If they were diligent they would have better prioritized TE in the 2011 draft, but hindsight is now 20/20.

The promising thing with Dez is that he is much more focused on football rather than what comic-strip-hero toy will come inside the next Captain Crunch cereal box he opens; unlike MartyB, I think Dez gets it, or at least tries to.

Doesn't matter. Nothing matters if Romo has less than 3 seconds to throw the ball. By the looks of it, that is going to be the case again this year.

This is the only thing that bugs me about this forum... The debbie downers and chicken littles. Why does everything have to always be SOOO negative? If you're not excited with just the simple fact that football is BACK... then something is seriously wrong. Let the the more knowledgeable members speak and learn a thing or three. As far as the draft goes Dallas drafted smart... high motor and character. I'm not sure you can go wrong with motivated players. It will be an interesting and exciting offseason, thats for sure. Wondering how center will addressed...

Dez Bryant is having a good offseason, but it's got to carry over, says receivers coach http://******/J7rizf

The winner of the offseason underwear olympics 2 years running has been thrust to the forefront again. Will anyone out hustle bryant during this years OTAs and 2 a days?

I don't think work ethic has ever or will ever be an issue with Bryant. IMO, learning the offense is, whether it's a product of him thinking the physical is more important than the mental aspects of the game; him being a slow learner compared to some or having a poor attention span, etc.

To me, there is some issue there, but it's not big enough to keep him from succeeding, and it really shows just what kind of receiver he can be when it all clicks together (just based on what he's accomplished as an "incomplete" receiver).

That's been the general rule: 3rd year is the breakout year for most WRs--assuming they ever break out.

Fitz, AJ Green and few others were exceptions.

Dez was on pace to have as good a year as AJ green before he got hurt his rookie year.

And Dez had just as good of a year as AJ did last year, I don't know why people keep acting like Green had such a better year than Dez.

Not to mention AJ Green was the true no. 1 receiver in Cincy

I agree, but fortunately for them, they got to play in the NFC West.

Your having a go about being negative but at the end of your post prove his point.
