It might have been shorter if the OP merely said, " we ain't gettin 12 wins again "
We ain't getting 10 wins. May not get 9. If we go into the season with no other improvements we don't get to nine wins for sure. Dak and Mike are gone and we are in reconstruction mode, finally.

Maybe we can turn Trey Lance into a running back. He and Micah can share the load with Zeke mopping up.

I am bad-mouthing the team but you describe the Jones boys as driving the ship into the iceberg. Not sure how your descriptor is positive and mine bad-mouthing?
There are parts that deserve to be bad-mouthed, such as the Joneses' management of the team. There are multiple areas of the team that do not.

You cant fault an owner of anything to put positive spin on the company/product he puts out there. We are too rough on him sometimes. What do you expect him to say" "well we had a lousy draft, Im not too confident in this rookie crop and McCarthy better hope he gets better or I may fire him"?

I think I am further down the realism spectrum, not negativity. I am an optimistic person by nature, but I have been a fan for a long time and have had my share of disappointments, even with far greater talent than this group.
You seem to agree with a lot of my points. You even used the term "we are screwed at DT" and our RBs are concerning. Where are we seeing things differently? I just think we should expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised if they give us more. Typically we are promoted to expect the Super Bowl and for the past 29 years we have dissapointed. Keep the faith but don't have glory-day expectations. After all, Dak is still the number one disappointment in the playoffs.

KEEP THE FAITH BUT DON'T TAKE OUT THE ANNOINTING OILS.
I think we'll be ok with Zimmer. Quinn was too much a players coach for these knuckleheads. We needed someone to hold them accountable.

I think our lbs will do well, and I think we'll be decent in the run game. I am of course hoping/projecting our run blocking to be better this year.

I also think our dbs are good enough to translate to another scheme.

At the end of the day though I don't believe we have enough to do more than the usual disappearing act in the playoffs.

It is difficult to get Dak out of you mind. He is: 1) the highest-paid player on the team and will be for a long time, 2) he is the quarterback for our favorite team, 3) he seems to be a good guy and does a lot for the community, 3) he is a Dad,
4) he is the leader of the team, (at least the offense), 5) he plays well in the season, especially at home or when the defense stakes him to a lead or great field position, 6) he is absolutely and unequivocally not a playoff QB, in fact, he walks out on the field, even at home, with the deer in the headlights look, as if to say, I would rather be getting a root canal rather than playing in this game!! Dak is the Cowboys. Dak ain't never getting over the hump. No quarterback has been so inept for so long in the playoffs. We will never win a Super Bowl or even a second-round playoff game with him at the QB position. So, yeah, "ust get him out of your head" seems to be the cry of a person who does not know football or is resigned to the fact that this QB is incapable in the playoffs. Your choice, Jarv. Which is it?

I don’t read long posts…period! By the way this thread isn’t about Dak. Some of you need to get him out of your head.
I agree about long posts.

But if anything is about the cowboys in general...then it's also about Dak.

I don't see you policing the forum when Dak needs praised. I *believe* I have seen you bring up Romo in Dak threads.

It's hilarious the people that most vehemently defend Dak in every regard, accuse other people of "dak lives in your head".

And all pretty much bad-mouthing the team. I'm not happy with our approach to free agency. I don't believe we can contend for Super Bowls with it, and I think that has been proven. But that doesn't mean it's all bad. It's not good enough, but we may still be a playoff team. I know some would prefer to go belly-up than just be a team that gets into the playoffs, but I don't think I could stand to watch a miserable season, and I don't know if it would result in real change anyway. Jerry and Stephen might shuffle the deck chairs but they are still driving the ship into the iceberg.
So it hasn't worked and is not good enough. Yet you want everyone to show up and clap and scream bravo.

I watched the most pathetic loss in team history against Green Bay. The response was we are working to resign all of our guys at max deals and bring back a washed out bum RB. Not one single piece of critical self evaluation and commitment to change. Like it never even happened.
Got dang it if that ain't the truth.

Only defense is maybe they are shedding contracts and moving forward. If Dak is re-signed your post will be 100%.

You know, I think you are correct. I am completely changing my view. Trey will be great, he will lead us out of temptation as well and turn water into wine. The Super Bowl trophy will be an afterthought.
Lame response, would you rather just be sitting with Dak and Coop as only possible potential.
I want competition at every single position on the roster, even at QB2, why is there such a problem with the pro Daks that we add at least something to look at in the QB room?

You do what you want to do. I don't want to watch a bunch of losses, that's all. It's not enjoyable.

Years ago, I decided to keep my expectations low for this team. Occasionally, I get sucked back in, but generally I do not expect playoff success so I'm less disappointed when the team fails than others who get excited and start believing that we're going to the Super Bowl because we're 12-5 or whatever. I often record the games to find out if we won before I even watch them (and have not watched our playoff loss to Green Bay, even though I have it recorded).

I used to live and die Sundays on whether Dallas won or lost. I used to let the losses get me upset or depress me for a few days, and could even feel them affecting my health. Now, I just want to enjoy what I can enjoy, so I'll take 10 wins over 10 losses, understanding the flaws of this team that make it very unlikely for it to have playoff success. And if somehow it does have that success, I'd rather be surprised by it than expect it and be let down.

That doesn't mean I don't see the problems with this team, but since the main problem is the front office, I also don't see those problems going away. So either I accept that (doesn't mean I can't point them out and wish for better) or I let it eat at me.

It's funny. I've essentially got posters in this thread calling me too positive and one in another thread attacking me for being too negative. I neither see everything about this team as all bad or all good. I think we could end up with 10 wins or more again with what we've got, but I also can't see us winning a Super Bowl with what we've got because teams that were already better than us or just behind us have done more to improve their teams. Take that as you will.

The Dallas Cowboys win the Super Bowl, three times every year; the day of the draft, during OTAs, and Training Camp.
Every puff piece that comes from Jerry's minions includes positives about all the draft picks, the few free agents we signed, and how glorious our new defense will be under Zimmer. Let's be honest, we have a mediocre team that somehow plays well in the regular season, especially at home, and then they collectively swallow the Jim Jones Kool-aid and fold like a cheap umbrella in the playoffs.

This team has huge holes in offense and defense. We have no good to great running backs. We have two retread veterans, a player who is good and would be a good second if we had an RB1 Deuce, who is a fan favorite, is unlikely to carve out a career in the NFL that looks anything like his college production. He is just too darn small.

On the defensive side of the ball, we have glaring holes at DT and Linebacker. We have no one who can clog the middle. I see nothing but red flags concerning Mazi. They are now referring to mental health issues on top of his lack of production. That is not good. I hate when fans prematurely call a player a bust, but in this case I have a foreboding feeling that Mazi was a wasted NO. 1 pick. (Same for Schoonmaker, a wasted 2nd round pick).

We are in the process of adopting a completely different defensive scheme, something that takes time and leadership. We have limited time and other than D Law, we have no leadership on the defensive side of the ball. There seems to be some confusion as to where Parsons fits in the defense. They always talk about moving him around, but folks, Zimmer is a run-first defense and our DEs will not be attacking the QB on every down. This defense requires discipline and attention to detail. Do we think our players, who are pampered beyond belief, are going to buy into Old School and adapt to its intricacies? Our guys love to freelance and get the accolades that come with QB sacks.

Lastly, I loved what Bland did last year but we cannot expect anything like that this year. Bland is a gambler and from what I saw from him last year, not a coverage corner. He routinely got torched when he wasn't picking off errant passes. He makes me very uncomfortable. We need to sign Gilmore. I just don't understand our FO, why are they not signing him to an incentive-laden contract? He brings veteran experience and leadership. We probably lose him to Houston who will pay him two sacks of coal and incentives that require contribution. We played this game with Zeke and he went to the Pats. We must have thought that he was washed up. But now, a year later, he is the prodigal son and the answer to our abysmal running game. That is a tough one to swallow. I like Zeke as a pass blocker and a short-yardage guy. In my opinion, we never should have let him walk. He could have been helpful in our red zone running quagmire.

In conclusion, please do not fall for all the puff and effusive praise about players that are thrown about at this stage of the season. I just read an article where McCarthy was gushing with enthusiasm about Freeman. He is a poor man's Zeke and someone who has been cut more than Leon "Cyclone Hart in his fight with Vito Antuofermo in 1977. We will not win the Super Bowl again this year. I am concerned, that with our schedule, we will have a below 500 team. Then the blood letting will begin. Bye, Mike McCarthy, it was nice knowing you. Will Zimmer step up? Will Dak be gone also? I see some dark clouds in the horizon, so I am setting my expectations low so as not to be expecting more than what this team can give us the fans who seem to care much more about winning than some of the players who see playing as strictly a business.
TLDR

Lol...I was talking about the guy who said I don't read long post, which is why I said that stuff about the blood dude that writes novels for post.

But you're correct, I don't want to resign Slak.
