The thought of Dez on one side and Johnson on the other -- that's a intriguing thought.
1,400 yards receiving is nothing to sneeze at.

Texans, however are unwilling to deal him at present.

Jerra/Romo, if you are reading this, weigh in on this intriguing thought.

The Cowboys have some good young talent at WR they don't need an aging WR who wouldn't be happy on a dysfunctional mediocre team that's stuck in the same 8-8 rut every year. One of the few things I like about the Cowboys are their WR corp. The Cowboys don't need to be giving up a premium draft pick for a 33 year old WR when the defense is loaded with holes. It's going to take several premium picks the next few years to fix the defense.

If the Texans were willing to trade Johnson there's no way Jerry would attempt to make that deal. He knows he has some good young talent at WR and has a defense loaded with holes. When he signed TO back in 06 who was also 33 like Johnson it didn't cost him a draft pick. Jerry knew he had an up and coming team that was on the verge of being a serious contender. He didn't have a young talented WR corp back then with an explosive playmaker like a Dez Bryant who was entering their prime.

He had Keyshawn who's best days were behind him and Terry Glenn who was starting to have some injury issues and was pushing 30. Jerry saw an opportunity to add an explosive playmaker at WR with little risk. If Jerry were to give up a premium pick in a trade you can bet the farm it's going to be on a defensive player.

for the record, I half not proposed a trade or giving up a premium pick.

As for Jerra not making any deal involving Johnson, I would say that today, it is farfetched.
But as I half observed with Jerra so many time, with him you can never tell.
Johnson here? I'd say, normally, it half a tiny chance, as in 5%
But when you consider jerra around it go up to 25% with a chance of rain.

Just keep focused on building through the draft. Sign low cost serviceable players in free agency. And let other teams discuss the big time player trades .

It better be and it better be for a big time impact player. But I don't see that happening.

I don't see that happening either the defense needs too many pieces to make a move like that. It would be different if the Cowboys were one or 2 players away from being an elite defense but when you have as many holes to fill defensively as they do it's best to build through the draft.

A better thought is trading Dez to Houston for 2 1sts and letting those 2 WRs light it up in H town. Meanwhile our cap problems will be solved and the new picks won't arrive a moment late. 2015 & 2016

CHAMPIONSHIP

teams are not built behind wide receivers

I don't know about that - the 90s teams would not have been who they were without Irvin or the Niners without Rice.

What makes anybody believe Johnson wants to play for Dallas? At best, the Cowboys are a couple years away and have a solid chance of having a new coach in 2015. Johnson is nearing the end and wants to win a Super Bowl now. And what he's hoping for are the Seahawks, Patriots, Broncos, 49ers, or Packers to come calling for him.

Plus, what price would you trade for a 33-ish receiver? Give me Dez, Williams, Beasley, Harris, and Street for now.

Yup yup!!!

so we have dez...... who else was behind rice? taylor...yes a good player, mostly because of rice...how about Irvin? we had a revolving door of 2nd WRs...so now we have Williams....its not like you need to be 4 deep in a #1 WR to have a chance...and in case you didn't notice...the best all time scoring team, with ton of WRs just got spanked by a better defense...defense wins championships...offense win you the fantasy football championship...you know you can still draft Johnson if you want to, you don't have to draft cowboys players...

The 90's Cowboys and the Niners wouldn't have been who they were without several players.

Rice and Irvin were the guys that set the tone for those teams - neither team would have been what they were without those guys. They were the cornerstones IMO.

Clearly Irvin and Rice were a big part of the success of their teams but even after Irvin arrived in Dallas in 1988 it took 4 years of player acquisitions before the Cowboys started winning. Even as talented as Dez is the Cowboys aren't winning because the team doesn't have enough good players. Calvin Johnson is a beast clearly the best WR since Jerry Rice but the Lions aren't winning many games. It still takes a number of good players to win consistently.

The 49ers won their first SB before Jerry Rice arrived but his addition certainly helped keep the Niners a great team for a number of years. There was still a lot of talent around Rice. He played with 2 HOF QB's through most of his career. If there was one player the 90's Cowboys probably wouldn't have been the same without it would have been Emmitt.
