Any slow moving vehicle is usually required to pull off the road when traffic builds up behind them (around here it is 5 vehicles). If a cyclist is not doing this then they are breaking the law. It is sad that there are so many bad cyclists out there giving those of us who follow rules a bad name. Luckily my town is extremely friendly to cyclists and most major streets have a bike lane.

What city is that?

Portland, OR and the surrounding area is pretty friendly to cyclists. If cyclists care to take the time and look, the city publishes maps of roads that are safest for cycling.

OH yeah! Especially those freaking idiot cyclists who think traffic laws don't apply to them. Some IDIOT cyclist very nearly got mowed down in VA yesterday by me when he blatantly ignored a good solid red light (for him, for a long time), didn't even slow down, and cut right in front of me as I was going through a green light that had been green for some time, like 10-15 seconds green. If I mow down an idiot cyclist like that, fine. I'm not slowing down for their stupidity and their thinking they are above traffic laws.
I used to live on a one way street. I believe bicycles should not be allowed on sidewalks. They are not pedestrians. I do not think they should ride the wrong direction on a one way street either. So I left my drive way and made an immediate left turn on the street just north of where I lived. A bicyclist was coming the opposite way on the sidewalk and he nearly crashed. There is no way I could have seen him because the sidewalk is tree lined. He yelled at me as if I had done something wrong and flipped me off.

I actually felt bad for the guy until he did that. I wished I had hit him because I was breaking no laws, he was.

Good ideal about the map. Your right if people on bikes follow the law of the road way there would be fewer problems

Ah yes, the wonderful cyclists. The city of Austin loves it's cyclists, but majority of the residents, not so much.

I think I'm going to invest in a couple of those traps Rynie had!! I'll have to replace a couple of the items with spandex and racing helmets, but it should work :)

I hear you, numnuts...

He have that idiot on the city council who chimes in "what about cyclists" every time they start a project...

Last year they had a race come THROUGH Belterra and I couldn't get out of the subdivision because it was all blocked off... frustrating...

Yup, I got out of town that weekend. I don't mind when they have a bike lane or the shoulder is huge. But when they get on the roads just big enough for two cars and the sun gets right in your eyes, all bets are off.
