Thats my whole deal in replying to these countless Deuce threads. To provide a pragmatic break to all this hype.

I personally dont think he makes the final roster. He'll be on the practice squad a couple years so he can hang out with his dad.

But if he can prove himself to warrant a roster spot and makes this team better in some way, then Im all for taking a very late 6th round comp pick flyer on him.
I think he makes the final roster because of the big deal the Joneses and everyone made about drafting him. They spent at least 15 minutes during the post draft press conference getting all teary-eyed talking about him because his father is a scout for the team. Jerry will make sure he makes the final roster for at least this season. If they put him on the practice squad he could be poached. They’ll find return opportunities for him and have some pass plays/wildcat formations. He could even make Turpin expendable if they were decide to go with him on punt returns. I believe it was reported he was fielding some punts during mini camp.

If they keep him just because of that, I'll puke. And that would explain why this team under Jerry has been mediocre.

Practice squad is a win win for everyone. Poached? lol No one wants him but us.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say no one wants him but us. Maybe no one wanted to give up a draft pick for him, but they’ll certainly take him off the practice squad and give him an opportunity. He has a lot of ability, but his size is a concern. He compares with Darren Sproles so someone would give him a chance.

If this coaching staff uses this guy right, he is going to make some heads turn. Watch his vision when he runs, he is always looking for open avenues to run. I know, if it wasnt for Pollard, we would all be scratching our head as to what that means :)

Can't wait to see Deuce in games!

PS: Can Jerry sign that whole K-State Oline?

For him to get poached means some team putting him on their 53. That will not happen.

He is not Sproles or Sanders.

To say he would be incapable of making someone’s 53 is wrong. You’re obviously a lot more down on him than I am. I think he could be a very good returner and provide something in the passing game. Get him out in the flat where he can get some space and he could create some big plays. He’s definitely not Barry Sanders, but he does compare with Sproles.

Just me, but I'd like to see him get about 10 touches a game.
He won’t come close to 10 touches a game. He won’t have a single game where he gets 10 touches. There were several games last season where Pollard didn’t get 10 touches.

No, he doesnt compare to Sproles. Sproles was a little taller and 15 lbs heavier. Plus he was much quicker. Plus he actually returned punts and KOs in college.

You WANT to compare the two, but there is nothing to compare except that both were very short. One being even shorter.

I'm a bit of a Deuce skeptic, but I do believe he would be poached if left exposed on the practice squad. There are some weak teams that would grab him just to take a look.

I've said since draft day that Turpin was gone the moment they drafted Deuce, so I agree with the above comments on this.

Don’t know where you’ve been, but practically everyone is comparing Vaughn with Darren Sproles. Sproles was only an inch taller and about 10 to 15 pounds heavier. Two players don’t have to be exactly the same size to be compared. This is just a small sampling of the comparisons between the two. Some of the links I can’t even post because they’re banned here. Go do a Google and see all the comparisons between Sproles and Vaughn, then come back and tell me they’re not comparable. Lol

Absolutely. There is a limit to the number of specialized players the team can keep on the 53. Deuce can really help his case if he can handle return duties.

Yes, and this is the problem. Difficult to justify a roster spot for a player that only sees a few plays. I think Luepke could potentially be on the field for more plays than Deuce, even if Deuce is the better runner.

All great to see. But what about the runs he didn't make, or got stuffed or 1 or 2 yard gains?
A fan who followed his career in college posted there were a lot of those where he got stuffed for one or two yards. You could probably make a long highlight reel out of those.
He did get stuffed. Just like every back. I remember watching Barry Sanders get stuffed at OK St. and some wondered if he would be ok in the pros. Then he got stuffed at Detroit. Last time I checked he turned out to be a decent back.
