We know.

But he still has two jobs.

Who's the #2 CB? If Champ Bailey was here with Newman who's the Nickel CB? And who's not getting on the field unless we go to four CB's?
well Champ isn't here so whenever we go with more than 2 corners both Jenkins and ODog will be on the field at the same time. you should get some sleep tonight, DC:laugh2:

Scandrick & Jenkins Say No Decision Made
Posted by jellis at 9/4/2009 11:59 AM CDT on truebluefanclub.com

Contrary to a report Thursday night, Orlando Scandrick and Mike Jenkins say they have not been notified of the team's plans for the starting right cornerback job, or if they do know, they aren't telling.

DallasCowboys.com spoke to the two second-year players in the lobby of the team hotel before they left to go shopping, both saying there was no meeting with coaches to discuss their status.

Indications last night had the team alternating the two as starters, with Jenkins going with the first team in the season-opener against Tampa Bay, and Scandrick getting all the reps versus New York in Week 2. The two would alternate until one player emerged.

The situation was even more muddled Friday.

"For all we know we could be alternating every play," Scandrick said.

So for now, at least, there doesn't appear to be any resolution to the most confounding question of the preseason.

After reading last night that the Cowboys were undecided on which Cornerback would be named the permanent starter opposite Terence Newman I took a good twelve or so hours to think about this situation.

Orlando Scandrick won the competition.
Game 2 - Giants
Game 4 - @ Broncos
Game 6 - Falcons
Game 8 - @ Eagles
Game 10 - Commanders
Game 12 - @ Giants
Game 14 - @ Saints
Game 16 - Eagles
He gets to start against the Giants and Eagles twice and the Skins once.

So Mike Jenkins only stats one regular season game against an NFC East opponent.

Here's the Jenkins starts...
Game 1 - @ Bucs
Game 3 - Panthers
Game 5 - @ Chiefs
Game 7 - Seahawks
Game 9 - @ Packers
Game 11 - Raiders
Game 13 - Chargers
Game 15 - @ Skins
Now you say well that's just the way it worked out though. And I say well who decided who begins the season as the starter. And then you say well maybe they flipped a coin for it. And then I say well if they were both playing equally as well why not flip that same coin and just name the starter for the season. If it's fair to say who starts the season off then isn't it fair to say who's the permanent starter?

And trust me I know that if one of them stinks then they won't be starting anymore.

I will go one better. Why isn't this a three person rotation?

All I hear if that all three CB's are going to play just as much as the other so this whole argument is silly.

So then why doesn't Terence Newman start the 3rd game on the bench?

Oh. I see. Now I sound silly right, lol.

Two more things. If Scandrick starts eight game and also plays the Nickel CB role in every game then he has two jobs.

And lastly. Anyone who thinks that draft status and contract (money) don't play a role in these decisions is really naive.

If these things didn't play any part we would never hear about escalator clauses in contracts for starts. And we hear about it all the time.

As for draft status. I see people use the name Bobby Carpenter when arguing their point that it plays no role. I laugh very hard.

Would Bobby Carpenter even be on the Cowboys right now if he wasn't a first round draft pick in 2006?

Again. Scandrick is the winner.

Nice read DC. My boy OScan gets to do his thing! YEAHHHHHHHHHH

You didn't get it bro.

Think harder. Or I will make it simple.

Scandrick has two jobs. Starter on even weeks and Nickel CB.

Jenkins has one. Starter on odd weeks.
What, Jenkins won't play in the Nickel?

Another look says Jenkins won.

He starts week 1, the first game of the season.

There I just proved you wrong in two sentences. :D

yep scandrick forced their hand, the coaches could have just went with the first round pick and money guy.

but scandrick can flat out play, and they see that, not taking anything away from Jenkins.

Will another look say Scandrick won if he messes up and we see Jenkins starting Week 3?

I doubt this rotation lasts all season, the coaches indicated who ever gets hot keeps the starters job. So I see Jenkins playing plenty time outside when OS moves to the nickle.

I disagree, since it's been stated that whoever has the hot hand will be starting consecutive weeks

I have heard of NFL QB's and NBA players getting a 'hot hand'...

But I don't seem to ever recall hearing about an NFL CB having a 'hot hand'.

That's funny, because I've never considered the nickel corner to be a "second job" for a guy who already runs with the first team.

It feels like Jenkins is a bit of a ... well, let's say mental midget. The type of guy who could lose focus if he's not starting, even if you need him to play a crucial role in nickel. So, thus, you invent this cockamamie starter every other week gimmick to keep Jenkins' motivated and reward Scandrick for winning the job.

They will get equal snaps. And the analogy to Newman is flawed. And Scandrick will move to the slot with Jenkins moving to the CB opposite Newman when Scandrick starts.

He was benched his junior year at South Florida. First round talents should be men among boys by their junior years in college (most declare after their junior years), not bench warmers. So why was he benched? Considering South Florida isn't exactly the University of Miami in the mid 80's as far as football powerhouses go, I'll sugest it wasn't because the guy who took his starting spot away from him was the second coming of Rod Woodson.

And from Bryan Broaddus

I said this the other day, I think he has wonderful God given talent which helps him make plays but I do agree with you, there is something to studying, reading routes and playing with awareness which I think he sometimes doesn’t do.

http://insidecorner.dmagazine.com/2009/08/28/chat-with-bryan-broaddus-episode-2/#more-14667

So I don't think it's going out on a limb to imply a guy who doesn't even consistantly apply himself when there is an open cometition for a starting job on the line might not totally throw himself into a part time role.
