At the time of the draft, Pettiti was our RT, and Adams was recuperating from knee surgery. We definately had OT needs.

but we don't have OT problems now, so...

You shouldn't post such nonsense with reasoning, common sense, logic, and truth being such rare commodities around here.

BTW, Merry Christmas.

Barry Bonds does steroids and suddenly baseball is in an uproar, but a big time NFL linebacker does steroids and it gets swept under the rug. I'm confused.

I was agreeing with YR. I wouldn't ever condone steroid use.

And Bonds is on the cusp of eclipsing a hallowed record, which makes fans hate him even more.

this thread should be titled "lets see how many excuses Cowboy fans can come up with"

or "lets see how many fans actually think every move the Boys make is the right move".

the fact is the medical staff must have gave the green on Jacob Rogers or Parcells decided to ignore them... that was a mistake just like drafting a slow backup TE over your LT of the future!!!

Parcells the GM strikes again...

As has been pointed out- McNeill could go down at any time with that problem. Or he could play 15 years. Frankly, I would have passed on him as well. Just how many OT's come in and play that well as a rookie. Looks like the Chargers took a gamble and so far its paying off. BP took much less of a gamble on Columbo and its paying off as well. Both teams got what they needed.

Yes, Cowboys fans, you remember this past April in the second round of the 2006 draft. Our heros had the 49th pick, but decided to grab an extra pick from the Jets by trading down to #53. Mammoth All-American OT Marcus McNeil was sitting there for the taking at #49, but, after all, we didn't really need an athletic, quick & powerful offensive tackle at 6-8, 335 lbs. No, our strategy was to trade down 4 picks and take a back-up TE. The reason for this, we were told, was to find another quality TE to maximize our new two TE system.

Well, we're almost through the season, and I'm still waiting to see our vaunted 2 tight end system that was going to baffle defenses, and create mismatches all over the field.

Oh, as far as Mr. McNeil, he was taken with the very next pick (#50), by the SD Chargers. Surprise, huh? It is getting to be an aggrivating habit of the Bolts to wait for us to shoot ourselves in the foot, then take the player that would have benefited us most. Here is an excerpt on how Marcus McNeil has done so far this season:

After last year's disaster with Petitti, we were not going to entrust the RT job to a rookie. I am very certain of that.

So all of this hand-wringing is pretty much moot.

It happens every year. Coulda shoulda please shut up.

Personally I didn't have McNeill on my draft board, but when the 2nd round rolled around and he was there, I thought that McNeill would've been a good draft choice there, but I could've gone in several directions.
Stop being cute Parcells. :)

I think Parcells already knew, that Fabini was going to be a Cowboy and Colombo was making great strides in the weight room. So, I'm sure he felt that having Pettiti, Colombo and Fabini already competing...RT wasn't going to be a priority on draft day.

Hind sight? Many here, including myself were furious that we passed on Mcneil. I was disgusted then & I am more disgusted every time I see him Pancake someone.

Bottom line is guys with his ability are usualy top ten picks, when you have achance to grab him in the second round, you do it! Especially when your O-line play has been real bad.

That whole "he wouldn't have started as a rookie crap is lame. Think like that and you will never build a dominate O-Line, you have to invest in the future.

I am happy with columbo's play, but any way you slice it, adding a young stud O-lineman with dominant future potential to your team at a great value is how you build a dominant O-Line.

Hindsight?
D-1= Davin Joseph
D-2= Marcus Mcneil

FYI for people like you that want to harp on these things...

other teams probably wished they have taken some of the guys we did

just a helpful reminder

Our two tight end system never took off because we didn't have the necessary depth required to run it.

We needed tight ends who could play both positions, and yet behind Fasano and Witten. Losing Ryan Hannam and Brett Pierce really put a blow on our dual tight end system. Tony Curtis also didn't mature into the player Parcells had expected. You'd have players who could play h-back, or TE, but not both. Only Witten and Fasano could.

You're kidding right David?

Our draft picks are always the scum of the earth that no team in the western hemisphere would want. LOL!
