Another thought on why McFadden may have been signed

Razorback fan here. One thing I haven't heard mentioned about McFadden: he's a very emotional player. He plays his heart out. I'm wondering if playing on a bad team is harder on players like that. Year after year, it tends to wear them down. The fire in their heart dies down. Without that fire, McFadden hasn't been the same player. If the fire comes back, maybe he could be pretty dang good. I'm just wondering. It's certainly worth the risk.

Dez plays with a ton of fire. Yet he disappears in games.

He has had a lot of soft tissue injuries in the past. Don't like it. However they set it up to be la ow risk signing. 200k is not much in today's NFL.

I remember Jerry wanting McFadden so bad in the draft that he was having wet dreams about him. Dallas was trying to do anything to move up to get him, but the cost was too much as I recall. However, I do think going to the raiders is like going to purgatory. No one seems to have done anything with that team for years. Rookies, veterans, everyone goes to Oakland to die. I mean DM was apparently offered a lot more money to go to Oakland instead of Philly and said no.

FWIW, I think McFadden will give us everything in his tank. The only question is whether he has the elite speed and quickness he had several years ago. I have no doubt the will will be there. He finally got what he wanted and that was to be a Cowboy. Change in scenery might do him well and for once he actually has some blockers in front of him. Folks, take a look at the power rankings last year. Raider's in the 30's all year. The team flat out sucks.

McFadden didn't have many carries, either.

155 carries, 114 carries, and 216 carries.

Compared to 82 carries, 59 carries, and 35 carries. McFadden had two to six times more carries. Don't be ridiculous.

They needed a vet RB who can run, pass-block and catch and not being a liability in either situation. Darren gives you that. Now you go into the draft needing a RB but not feeling compelled to select one immediately in the 1st round.

If we're fortunate, playing behind this OL allows him to flourish and show his natural ability.

I know people are kind of down on him and the team right now, but I'll point to Justin Forsett as an example of a vet running back who had a huge year after years of bouncing around unsuccessfully in the NFL. McFadden is a better talent than Forsett, with probably a better line and surrounding cast. If he stays healthy I will not be shocked if he runs for over 1000 yds as a co-lead back.

I think he was signed to appease Jerry and make him feel better about the loss of Murray.

Jerry wanted to have a picture taken with a free agent signing, so the FO set this up.

Jerry doesn't know any better and its only a 200K cap hit when he gets released. So I see no harm in it.

Yep... Low risk high reward

Its sort of where we were with Murray before we dramatically improved the OL.

Murray was not anywhere the runner before the OL rebuild.

So I think its unrealistic to discount being honest that Murray is a huge product of the Cowboys finally committing to the run in the last year.

I mean..

the year before Linahan arrived and Zack Martin..

we were all still screaming the Cowboys were not running enough.

Now they have and we see the results.

McFadden could also have a huge year in place of Murray.

Give it a chance

And frankly..I think Murray has made a big mistake going to Philly.

Chip Kelly's offense is not about running.

Murray is not going to get the opportunities.

They throw and run QB options.

A lot.

That is not the offense Murray needs.

He is a grinder.

He needs 25 carries a game to dominate.

I think he's made a career ending error in judgment going to Philly.
