I looked at what most of these seasons have in common, besides consistent, very good-to-great passing performances. In 101 of the 113 seasons represented, these players' teams ranked in the top half of their league in either scoring defense or rushing TD. In the 12 seasons that didn't meet the criteria, the team's average record was about .500, despite the QB's top 10 performance.
In almost 90% of these seasons, either the team's defense or running game ranked among the top half of the league scoring-wise. This implies that the rest of the team normally got a boost from the QB's passing performance, and/or the QB's performance benefited from the success of the rest of the team.
To explain the numbers below, the only times Manning's defense and running game ranked in the bottom half was 2002 and 2004. His was the only team to make the playoffs, and the only team to win a postseason game. As for all the other QB on this list, when their defense and running game ranked in the bottom half, their own top 10 passing performance wasn't enough to get their team to the postseason.
The bigger point is that most of these QB's never experienced such a season when they were in the top 10. It's happened with the Cowboys three consecutive seasons now. What this shows is that 1) it's highly unusual for a team's passing game to be this much better than the rest of the team for such a long period, and 2) Manning is in a league of his own.
