After you get R.W., who here really cares about the current receiver we have that gets the short straw to make room for him?
ilovejerry;2289610 said:Yes he 100% would have to massage Ownes, I could care less who got the short straw, ( but we did waste time trying to developing these guys ) I like Austin and Hurd. But again I just think T.O would blow Up no Matter what. you can do all the talking and massaging you like the media pressure would be on him like white on rice. Look at the coverage he gets now. There waiting for him to blow up, guys I think its a real dicey situation That's all...

this years team can definitely run the ball better than the past few years teams' have done, and the defense certainly has the talent to win games as well. Our special teams units are also all top notch (yes, even the coverage teams so far)

I do not know why people cannot understand that.

Eskimo;2290091 said:To me, the big issues are:
1. Will there be a salary cap after 2009?
2. Can we get Roy Williams signed without having to lose an important player on the team. We've already chosen to extend TO, re-sign Flo, TNew, Hamlin and Barber to new deals in the last year. Adam would know better than anyone our ability do do this but I have heard it is going to be tight next year without adding a Roy Williams.
3. His level of productivity is not high for a guy people are talking about giving $8-9M/yr for. That's the sort of money given to Fitz, TO and Owens. Roy is not in their class and I think someone will be very disappointed to have paid #1 WR to get #2 type production.
Hostile;2289585 said:The desire to add Roy Williams is really about 2 things.
1. An insurance policy against losing Terrell Owens to injury again. This team was never close to the same after he was hurt. Not even the return of Terry Glenn could inject some life into the Offense.
2. It is a way to further create matchup problems for Defenses to adjust to.
Who cares if he scores a lot of touchdowns when he comes here? No one should. What they should notice is that it causes teams to leave Owens or Witten in single coverage more often. Is it impossible to believe he could actually flourish in a better Offense than he has been in during his career? Why?
I am no longer worried about chemistry on this team. They have a singular focus and drive to win and every player who has joined the locker room has found acceptance. An unselfish player like Roy Williams would not change that.
All this move does is make us that much stronger and it is a measure towards the future, not just this season. People say "what about the progress of Crayton and Austin and Hurd and Stanback?" What about it? I don't see where this move denies them anything or stops their progress. If they shut down because a player is added then they are too fragile to matter to the team anyway.

Eskimo;2290105 said:Fitz is, but I thought Moss and TO got 3 years $27M.
According to this link, TO got 4 years $34M ($8.5M/season)

DaBoys4Life;2290129 said:hmmm I could have sworn Moss signed for 3 year 30 mill O well then I guess he should be played accordingly maybe in the range of 6-7 mill. The thing is if he comes to us his numbers will sky rocket.
Eskimo;2290146 said:That is conjecture to some extent. His numbers are underwhelming when compared to the elites of the league. He has only put up one superlative season whereas most of the top guys have put up several highly productive seasons.
Think about Plaxico Burress. He is another big receiver with attitude concers and inconsistent production. He ended up having hardly any interested parties and ended up signing with the Giants for 6 years $26M, if I remember correctly. I don't think Roy's numbers are much better than Burress' were.
