I think you know "tackles" for a DB isn't exactly a great statistic. The one forced fumble is the only one you can definitively say, as a raw statistic, is positive. Pass deflections could also mean he's being targeted too much.

This feels very much like Hitchens in 2014, the blind love while everyone overlooked his mistakes because "rookie" - Brown hasn't shown me anything that says he will be anything good or great in the future. About the only thing I've been pleased with is, he's at least a decent tackler. Rob loves that, so he'll have a place here as long as Rob is DC. Brown looks to have a ceiling of an average nickel corner in this league, he damn sure doesn't look like he can cover the outside.

Except for a couple of mistakes he's always around the ball and is a fighter. I just think you're expectations for a 6th round pick are way off. He's only going to get better.

For a reference point though - look up Jacque Reeves - you'll fell better.

We have no pass rush. Our secondary doesn't get much help from our front seven. Brown has been an asset to this team thus far. Once he gets coached up and we have a pass rush, he'll look better. Hell, everybody back there will.

Remember the light didn't click 'on' for Barry Church or MoC until year 3 or 4.

DRAFT ANALYSIS:
The Cowboys had a big need at CB depth so Brown should have considerable opportunity to compete for a roster spot relative to his draft spot. He aced the pre-draft process recording the 2nd fastest CB time at the Combine (4.35). --Mark Dulgerian

OVERVIEW

The Boilermakers had one of the worst pass defenses in college football in 2015, but Brown shouldn't be blamed for that performance. He intercepted four passes on the year (the first four of his career), breaking up six others (giving him 19 in three years as a starter). One of Brown's strengths is his tackling ability (110 in 2014-2015), as he's willing to throw his body into a play. Combining good athleticism with some physicality makes Brown a potential special teams contributor and reserve corner at the next level.

ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS
Patient footwork from press coverage. Consistent and effective in zone coverage. Plays with plus field awareness and overall intelligence in space. Solid in bail coverage with balancing eye work between receiver and quarterback and maintaining proper spacing. Diligent against play-action possibilities near goal line. Has hands to finish with the interception when opportunity arises. Finished with 10 passes defensed in each of the last two years. Provides value in special teams coverage. Showed blistering closing speed at combine.

WEAKNESSES
On wrong end of entirely too many touchdowns over last three seasons (charged with 17 allowed on 162 targets). Handsy defender at the stem or top of the route. Doesn't trust his technique, and willing to grab and pull rather than work the feet. Charged with six pass interference penalties in 2015. Has some stall when transitioning forward from backpedal and when opening to run from press. Reads pass quickly, but burst to ball is limited. Passive tackler with inconsistent effort against the run.

DRAFT PROJECTION
Rounds 5 or 6

NFL COMPARISON

BOTTOM LINE
Extensive tape work is required for Brown because he's much more talented in coverage than his touchdown total. His slight transition stiffness combined with grabby play in man is a concern, but his field vision and discipline from zone will appeal to zone teams. To earn playing time, Brown needs to play to his size and improve his aggressiveness and willingness as a tackler.

I heard the Cowboys had a 3rd round grade on Brown, and were ecstatic he was still there to be taken in the 6th.

BTW, Brown wasn't drafted to be a premier starting CB in this league. He was drafted for depth and to play the 3rd CB in the nickel package.

And that was a role he was excelling in until too many injuries forced him into a larger role since the Pitt game. We didn't draft this rookie in the 6th round hoping "Yeah let's stick him out there 1 on 1 with Antonio Brown and DeSean Jackson!"

We're being forced to do that. He's supposed to be covering team's 3rd WR's or TE's and RB's as the 3rd corner. Once we get every one healthy back there, he can go back to limited snaps in the nickel package.

Guy has 34 tackles in limited action, 4 passes defensed and 1 forced fumble but just another guy?

OK then.

Thanks for the stats on Anthony Brown. I think he is going to be good and has the potential to be the best CB of the 2016 draft. I looked up Sherman's rookie year stats. Sherman had 47 tackles, 16 games played, 0 forced fumbles, 4 INTs. I don't remember what Seattle's DL was like in Sherman's rookie year. I imagine it had to have been a lot better than the Cowboy DL right now.
