Newman was the best player on our D. There's no doubt about it. It's really not even close.

Henry was great, but Newman was even better.

"Newman made just as many big plays and never got burned one time."

Only time I saw Newman get burned was that opening play to Moss against Oakland. I believe that was him, anyways. Either way, Newman caught him from behind. :)

Henry played well for the most part in my opinion, but he did have some lapses.

As for teams "throwing at him"? I'd call it the lesser of two evils. Newman is definitely the better corner and opponents know that. But they have to throw the ball somewhere.

I'm eager to see what a healthy Anthony Henry is capable of.

Henry had a lot of opportunities to make plays because he got picked on. And he almost lost the San Diego game for us right here --

Henry made some plays before his injury, but he also got burned a lot. Newman made just as many big plays and never got burned one time. Henry wasn't even our best cornerback before he got hurt, let alone the best player on our defense.

Again, I ask, where are you getting those catches against stats from?

I, unlike most here, will not give you instant credibility because you are a self-proclaimed cap expert

I just want to see the link, that's all. I am not saying it isnt true, and it wont change my perspective, I just want to see where he is getting his information. I've never seen a site that lists catches against a CB. Stop acting like a high school hooligan waiting for a fight in the lunchroom

He has listed the site before.
I never went to it as I was thinking it was a pay site.

But he has listed the site before.

I'm not a self-proclaimed expert at anything. Other people have called me an expert at various things, but I've never said that about myself.

I keep my own stats for our cornerbacks. The only people who do the same on a league-wide basis are K.C. Joyner and STATS Inc. Joyner publishes his stats in a book each year, and he has reported some of them in his ESPN's Insider columns. STATS Inc. charges a fee for its cornerback stats, but some of them have been reported in the media.

Yes. I watch the games as well, and I, nor does anyone else on this board I assume, have the attention span to record every catch of every game.

If you're going to tell me that you're "proof" is that you watched the games and nothing more, then I have no reason to believe those stats.

Yes, I have a long attention span. And an intense devotion to the Cowboys.

I'll provide proof, if you need proof. Since I assume you don't have the games recorded youself, it will take me a while, but I will provide visual proof, if you need it.

he was one of the best players on defense prior to getting hurt.

With the exception of SF game, he WAS the best player on the TEAM prior to getting hurt.

All I know is, Henry is a dang good CB, except when he's going up against super fast athletes. If you try to run an out or slant on him, you're begging for a pick. But of you do 9 routes or post, deep slants and you're a superfast athlete, that's not his strong point.

So let's just be happy we have 3 really good CB's on this team, as some barely have 1.

During training camp, Parcells was asked about having acquired Henry to put on the other side from Newman (where there was a revolving door in 2004). Parcells said he was the best they'd had since he's been here. He never stated whether he meant the best cornerback or just the best right cornerback, but several reporters interpreted it to mean Parcells saying he was better than Newman.

I think he was just referring about overall depth at corner since Jerry was keen to say the same thing whenever given a chance. Always going back to the "best corner duo since Smith & Sanders."

In the San Diego and New York games you're crediting Henry with winning, he allowed 10 catches for 127 yards. Newman allowed five for 62. And if not for Aaron Glenn's interception in the end zone, we probably would have lost the San Diego game BECAUSE of Henry. On the Chargers' final drive, Henry allowed a 17-yard catch, then allowed a 33-yard catch to our 7-yard line on fourth-and-14. Thankfully, Glenn saved our win.

Henry did as well as he deflected a fade pass to McCardell (IIRC) that would've given SD the lead. I had Henry giving up 5 catches for 67 yards in that game. That's not really getting "picked on" by my account. Especially since I believe they were like 5-13 throwing Henry's way (IIRC). They may have been targeting Henry, but they weren't having great success doing so.

On the one big catch that McCardell caught, Brees threw up a prayer and a half and it was so badly underthrown, McCardell had to come back 5 yards to catch the ball. Henry claimed he had lost it in the sun which was completely plausible given the weather and how high the ball was thrown. It also would've helped if Keith Davis (IIRC, he was in the vicinity) made a play on the wounded duck, prayer of a pass.

I thought I remembered that being a fluke play. To blame him for that is pretty lame if you ask me. Any underthrown ball is going to be the advantage of the WR as we have seen many times.

By the way, I will take the play of Anthony Henry over the first 7-8 games, every day of the week and twice on Sundays. He was the tone setter on the defense for those first games and I believe the MVP on the defense for those games too.

Well, sometimes the QB underthrows the ball on purpose because the CB won't be able to locate the ball and sometimes the ball is just barely underthrown. I could see blaming Henry for that. That would be a play that the QB and WR meant to do.

But the Brees pass was almost a mini-hail mary of sorts. I don't have my game notes on me, but I remember writing that Davis should've been able to make a play on the ball and just stood there (that may not be accurate since I'm going off of memory).

Your memory is correct.

I don't think most people realize how terrible Davis was last season. I'll go as far as saying that I've never seen worse FS play over an entire season. It was just brutal.
