Isn't it amazing the number of teams that are willing to make the same mistake we did?

There is always someone out there that thinks they can get through to a player.

They didn't make the same mistake we did.

We pumped a 2nd rounder into him.

They are signing him to a FA contract.

Its just costing them money. A small gamble. We spent a resource AND money into him.

Gruden is about at the end in Tampa Bay, the 'boy wonder' tag has worn off and his obsession with quarterbacks will ultimately cost him his job.

He needs to comes to terms with the fact that he couldn't actually do a better job than the QB's he has playing for him.

He's had a reputation as a 'turd collector' for several years - why should that change now?

They've already taken on problem child Jeremy Stevens, why not give him Bryant as a roommate?

They would end up kicking each others arses fighting about who should have better stats in Madden.

We've had a QC, and now an AB story today - I'm holding out for my Tony Dixon thread.

I really liked Bryant a lot. Too bad he couldn't keep his head on straight and succeed with us.

I think of all the draft picks we missed on in the past 5 or so years, he is the one that bothers me the most. I had real high hopes for him and really, really, liked him as a player.

Jacob Rogers bothers me more than AB.

I never liked Jacob Rogers.

I thought AB was going to be a long term starter and a star for us....

That one still burns me to this day....I had such high hopes for him.

That was the year we ignored character. Say what you want about BP but he would NEVER have taken Bryant or Ross.

lots of 2nd rounders bust.

Folks here are too swayed by Lacewell's crowing that "he told Bill not to take him." Of course, I can see why Lacewell would want that information out as it would have been the first good recommendation he had made in years.

I knew AB was trouble when he spiked the ball over the goal post celebrating while we were getting the **** kicked out of us. This kid is just not right in the head.

For the record...the same source that told me this morning he was there for a workout also told me that David Boston is too and has been impressive while Ike Hilliard is probably on the way out of town.

Bucs Work Out WR Bryant

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers worked out former San Francisco 49ers WR Antonio Bryant Wednesday. Should the Bucs sign him, Bryant, who has caught 250 career passes for 3,837 yards and 19 touchdowns, would come with some baggage.

The Buccaneers held another organized team activity at One Buccaneer Place on Wednesday, but that workout wasn’t the only one that took place on the practice field.

PewterReport.com is reporting that the Buccaneers worked out former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Antonio Bryant on Wednesday afternoon.

Several members of the Bucs' front office, including general manager Bruce Allen, director of pro personnel Mark Dominik and senior assistant Kevin Demoff, observed wide receivers coach Richard Mann instructing Bryant with quarterback Luke McCown throwing passes to the sixth-year wideout.

Bryant, 26, originally entered the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys in 2002. He played collegiately at Pittsburgh. Bryant’s former college teammate and current Bucs cornerback Torrie Cox was also on hand for his workout with the team.

The 6-foot-2, 188-pound Bryant has caught 250 career passes for 3,837 yards (15.3 avg.) and 19 touchdowns.

However, Bryant has had some difficulty staying out of trouble, which in turn has made it tough for him to stick with one team.

After two seasons with the Cowboys, Bryant was traded to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for WR Quincy Morgan after a well-document argument between Bryant and then-head coach Bill Parcells.

The change of scenery appeared to do Bryant some good. He had the best season of his career in 2005 when he hauled in a career-high 69 passes for 1,009 yards and four touchdowns.

He caught a total of 127 passes for 1,821 yards and eight touchdowns during his two-year stint in Cleveland before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2006.

During the 2006 offseason, Bryant signed a four-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers. He caught 40 passes for 733 yards (18.3 avg.) and three touchdowns as San Francisco’s primary receiver before getting sidelined by off-the-field issues.

On Nov. 19, Bryant was reportedly arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, driving under the influence and resisting arrest after being pulled over in his Lamborghini, which was traveling faster than 100 miles per hour on a major California highway.

In December, Bryant was benched for the first quarter of a regular season game for disciplinary reasons. According to published reports, 49ers head coach Mike Nolan disciplined Bryant for being late to a team meeting.

It wasn’t long before Bryant was in trouble again. With two games remaining in the 2006 regular season, the NFL suspended Bryant four games for violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.

As a result, Bryant missed the final two games of the ’06 regular season and was released by the 49ers on Mar. 1.

Bryant recently pleaded no contest to the reckless driving charges stemming from the November incident. According to NFL.com, he was sentenced to one year of probation and fined $1,312. Prosecutors also dropped the resisting arrest charge as part of the deal.

Because Bryant refused to take a sobriety test when pulled over in November, his driver’s license was automatically suspended for one year. Prosecutors reportedly didn’t follow through with a DUI charge because of a lack of evidence.

Bryant is not out of the woods just yet. If he signs with the Buccaneers or another NFL team, Bryant will miss the first two regular season games of the 2007 season as part of his suspension from last year. Bryant is, however, allowed to participate in training camp and preseason.

I guess Tampa is the home for crazy, washed out wideouts now; David Boston Ike Hilliard(he isn't really crazy but he is washed-up) and now Antonio Bryant....Well, at least the weather will be nice when Boston and Bryant head back to the insane asylum after the season ends.

To think...Parcells owes his biggest victory as a coach to Quincy hitting AB on a long pass during that MNF game at the Meadowlands.

I think the superbowls were a little bigger, thats just me

I had no idea AB had been so "busy" while in SF.

Beyond the scrapes with the law or substance policy you just get the sense that orgs just don't want the guy on their teams even if he's not being so outlandish as to throw a jersey in the coaches face. Its like he's a simmering pot that gives off a consistent pungent odor even if it never completely boils over.

I really agree with you there. He had so much potential. That one hander against Carolina had me so juiced for what he could have been. But I guess his other stints around the league have confirmed that he can't get his head straight no matter what.

HOWEVER, they also show that he definately has enough talent to cut out a decently long career in the NFL. Someone will no doubt give him a chance again this year. His talent is real hard to pass up.

But I've definately moved on.

He has the physical gifts to be a megastar in this league IMO; he knows that, and so acts accordingly; i.e. like a prima donna. If he could get his head out of his butt, he could see that coaches and players want him to succeed and that the only thing holding himself back is himself.

He is gone and I can't say I am going to miss his attitude, but I do hope he gets his career together because possibly (possibly, not probably) end up like a Maurice Claret of the world and ruin all that talent. Tampa Bay is his LAST shot in this league I think.
