When I look back at game footage it is clear they are limiting his playtime. I know that high ankle injuries run the gambit for recovery time and could very well be next season until he is correct. I must of missed the media that normally follows our high draft picks.

If limited snaps this game, then 11 days off, maybe he will show and make an impact against the Commanders.

He says it's more of a mental thing now. Time to clear that mental hurdle, Gregory.

Ankle injuries are really funky. I had a friend who played pro soccer and he tore his ACL and also broke his ankle (I know, different from Gregory's injury) and he swears that he much preferred the ACL tear over the broken ankle because the ankle still feels not right to him.

I think we should also remember that he has Mincey, DLaw and Hardy there. So you have a rookie that hasn't practiced much and had questions about his strength and size going into the draft and he's fighting an ankle injury...probably logical to want to play Mincey, DLaw and Hardy instead who are healthier and have practiced.

oh. my. goodness.
after each week there's 2-3 posts about how Gregory isn't a dominant pass rusher yet.
It's not complicated, it doesn't take deep analysis. It's extremely simple, like stupid simple: He's a rookie, who wasn't even polished to begin with, coming off an injury that tends to linger and playing limited snaps as a result. What is so difficult to understand? Think for like, 3 seconds and you can figure it out.

High ankle sprain plus limited snaps after coming back from that injury equals ineffectiveness. Especially from a rookie. Then on top of that...he is a rookie pass rusher normally facing the other teams best OT. I can see why he hasn't flashed lately. Hopefully he comes on late when he gets in a groove for playing in this League.

How about, he isn't that good and needs to get stronger? He has short arms? He lacks tat burst off the line?

C'mon, help me out, what kind off generic, unprovable stuff does everyone use when they have an agenda?

How about he is a rookie and lost time to an injury.

Charles Haley said the same thing in camp. Charles knows more than us about it, so for now I'll go with his opinion. A week ago he said he didnt see improvement on film, but maybe he has an agenda. Why dont you ask him.

Young player who suffered about as big an injury as you can in his very first game. It'll take some time for him to rebound. Honestly, when I saw the replay of his injury, I thought it was something worse than an ankle sprain (even the the "high" type). His leg shifted pretty unnaturally IIRC. I'm just glad it wasn't something more severe like it appeared at the time and its not at all surprising to me that it has taken him some time to get to where he is. Next year, he ought to be a force...

Help out an uneducated injury expert here .... when I hear " high ankle sprain " it usually doesn't mean a sprain at all yes ?
I seem to recall that a lot of players who get this dreaded injury actually tear ankle ligaments isn't that why it is an injury that lasts so long, and takes so long to return from.
If that is in fact the case, then it's easy to see why a rookie would struggle coming back off of that ...

First off, Gregory is a 'rook.' He was undersized and need to both grow in size/strength, and adjust to the level of execution and reactions required for a top level of NFL play.

First round talents, usually are given a three to eight game adjustment to arrive at a functional starting role.

His adjustments have been slowed due play scheming now being the dominant direction for coaching, and his injury also hinders his personal adjustments. Hey, it takes time for any 'rook' in the NFL.

Nope, they should've already been chipping out his bust in Canton by now. This is absurd - he was supposed to be the combination of Lawrence Taylor, DeMarcus Ware, and Superman all in one.

Not buying into he wasn't polished, dude was a top 15-20 talent. He's about as polished as most DEs can be coming into the league.

I understand injury, but he's pretty much a ghost right now. I just don't care about him until he shows something. Take a seat next to Green, if he can find him.

OK must of misunderstood that first game where he kicked... and was double teamed routinely. It sure seems complicated. Guess we should throw out Z Martin, T Fred, T Smith, and B Jones rookie data and considered it an outlier. Not for use in fan oriented discussion.
