Any Hope for David Arkin?

I thought aside from him being a bit weak for the NFL that he played pretty good in the preseason. Do any of you have a little hope in Arkin? I saw some things I liked last year. I know, I know Broaddus says he won't pan out. Am I the only one with hope for this guy?

Is Arkin such a terrible player that we don't even consider him a Cowboy anymore? Is that how this ended up in the 'off topic' section? lol

I had two CZ windows open and posted in the wrong one, but funny.

has there been anything from the staff or anyone of the so called insiders that have mentioned him at all in the last few months?

If there has been I have missed it.

That kind of silence usually only means one thing.

he has been here long eonugh that you would think he could atleast have been active for a game last year with the way our guards played. that tends to say he just is'nt a player. but he will get another camp to show something and hopefully he does but i would'nt bet a penny on that happening just because he has given us any reason to think it's gonna happen

I honestly don't see him making the roster. Unless one of Costa or Cook is going to get cut I don't see room for him on the roster.

Arkin would be a decent player with some muscle mass gain and more power. That is much easier said than done. The biggest reason for failure when a college lineman goes pro is playing strength IMO. Notice I said playing strength. The bench press numbers from the combine don't mean squat when it comes to playing strength. Frederick and Fluker are very strong power linemen. Several fans didn't want Dallas to draft them because their BP numbers were low. The tape clearly shows the power these guys play with. Arkin has seemed to struggle with gaining playing strength and I doubt he can gain the amount needed. Being a small school project, he was way behind to start with. Some players are not capable of being strong enough. Bad DNA. It was a gamble to draft a guy like Arkin to begin with. This is the year that a final decision will be made IMO. If he hasn't got it by this year, it is a slim chance that he will ever get it. The smart thing for a team to do, is draft linemen that has the power to start with and not gamble on these types.

That it is the offseason before OTA's?

It would be of great benefit if we could hit on a few of these OL....

Mike Woicik probably knows the answer right now. It's all about the weight room for Arkin. In the preseason he appeared to understand how to play and has very good quickness; however, he was just not strong enough.

Make or break year for sure.

Personally I'd like to see him make that jump of improvement that makes a guy like Cook expendable.

I thought he played well in the preseason sans the anchor. He showed some good technique getting under some guys to drive them. The issue was when a tackle would get their hands on him and bull rush him straight backwards.

The way that I figure it, this offseason will be two straight under Woicik. This is obviously make or break and I am interested if it has done him any good. It very well may be that he doesn't have the capacity to gain the strength required to play in the NFL. People max out where they max out.

Hope the best for him because it helps the team.

I will remain hopeful so long as David Arkin remains on the roster.

Some players take longer than others and the team has remained patient with Ark, seeing fit to let him keep a spot on the 53 all last season while having no plan to play him.

Arkin has to be doing something right to justify this, doesn't he?

We shall see.

Jerry Jones did mention Arkin along with Ronald Leary as young OL the team likes during his conference call with season ticket holders earlier this week.

I have just as much hope for Arkin as a do for Matt Johnson......and believe it or not that isn't a negative comment. We might need Matt a bit more right now, but both contributing would make a huge difference in this teams future.

I don't have much hope for the kid.

He just didn't seem to have the strength to get the job done.

I hope he has managed to gain the core strength to anchor himself with his lower body and back because he has enough upperbody strength.

It is generally true that pure brute strength tends to develop over several years and most guys don't truly peak until they are well into their 20s.

We'll probably know by the first preseason game if he is able to take the next step. If he isn't then we might as well cut bait and bring in another developmental prospect.

His pre-season play was horrendous. Shockingly bad.

It's interesting how different people can look at the same thing and come away with completely different impressions.

I thought he got pushed back too easily ie no anchor. The plays that happened were abysmal.

OTOH, I saw him use leverage to get under guys and drive them out of the hole convincingly. I saw him pick up stunts. I saw his awareness when pass protecting when he was helping out guards. I did not see him allow guys to get through unblocked. They might ride him back there but he at least got in their way. That tells me he has his assignments down.

I don't think it's fair to describe his performance with a single adjective even if modified with adverbs.
