OK-you guys (and gals) sucked me in. Arkin is a "pet cat" of mine because of the fact they are protecting him. They cut Leary last year and kept Arkin. Now i realize it is popular to acuse the front office and Mr. Jones of everything from apathy to incompetence, but they are being paid to evalute talent. They seem to think that Arkin (and Matt Johnston) have some potential that is worth keeping over other players that they have released. Now he may be in the first round of cuts, but I would be very surprised.

I am convinced, along with other posters, that the reason we didn't draft "project" OL is that we already have a ton of them on the roster. They obviously think that these men are superior to what they could have drafted (an oversimplification but still something I'm convinced is true). I like Broadus (sp?), But he is not Callahan or Garrett. If you really know what they are thinking I would love to know. Sorry for the rant, but i thought that was an important point in the discussion.

I like the specificity in your analysis as well as your analysis itself. I don't think he'll be in the first cuts either. I think we owe him a bit of time to get it together. He was in an awkward position last year, played center most of the year and wasn't ready when they could have used him. He knew that, and they looked elsewhere knowing he was a project.

The fans write him off because he hasn't developed. Well, we knew that he probably shouldn't be developed until his 3rd year. This is his 3rd year, so it's do or die for him. I really hope he can put something together and get stronger. He has good technique. I can see why they drafted him. I just think if I was already that big that putting on the extra strength in the weight room would be no big deal.

That is my larger point-the impressions that were formed were from watching a young project player attempting to learn a new position on the fly. He was at a severe disdvantage in that they had instructed him to focus on snapping the ball as his priority. He may or may not be strong enough but judging him on how well he held up in a game against professionals while attempting to snap and simulatneously block seems myopic. The only info I remember reading was what Broadus had to say. I really like Broadus but he is not omnicient. If Arkin were to pan out it would really help the progress of this team immensely. I think Arkin is kind of like North Korea-in the absence of tangible evidence, we are left to interpret the vacuum of information according to our fears and hopes (sorry, a little preacher talk). Give the kid a chance
