I was a student at Tech during Welker and Amendola's careers and InmanRoshi is dead on with his assessment.

In and around Lubbock, Welker was by far the most popular player since Zach Thomas. His punt return abilities were unrivaled and he seemed to always be a threat to take it to the house thanks to his uncanny ability to make would-be tacklers miss. The atmosphere in Jones Stadium when he was back to return a punt was beyond electric.

When Amendola's career was starting here, Welker was finishing up, and the hype about Amendola being the "next Welker" was big in Lubbock. In one of the first games as the new punt returner, he took one to the house and the comparisons only increased. From that point on, he would make a lot of people miss on his returns but would always get tripped up or caught from behind by the last guy. He ended his career with that one punt return for a TD and the hype surrounding him died off and he became just a solid slot receiver / punt returner. The difference in their careers at Tech was obvious to anyone who followed the program.

That is not to say that Amendola doesn't have a chance of having a good NFL career. It is just that to say he has the same skill set as Welker because they were both undrafted is delusional.

I never watched one single Tech game or even heard of Amendola prior to his coming to Dallas, but since he is a Cowboy now, I am thoroughly convinced that Theo is correct in his assessment.

Okay .. me and everyone who ever watched him play a lot at Tech, including the coaches and writers who gave him the 3 First Team All Big XII Honors.

Which probably doensn't include you. But .. please .. feel free to continue to act like you know what you're talking about because you fell in love with a player based on a rookie mini camp performance after you read a blurb on teh intertubes.

Again, Heismann Trophy Winners have gone undrafted ... it doesn't mean they weren't great college players.
...you and all those coaches ... but not the 32 NFL decision makers.

I'm sure Tech fans thought Welker was a god. Personally I couldn't care less about what fans think when I'm evaluating players.

Seriously, your argument has essentially become (1) coaches, fans, and media thought Welker was a "superstar," and (2) those same coaches, fans, and media thought Amendola was average.

Well, I guess Roy Williams must be good because coaches, players, and fans keep voting for him to go to Pro Bowls. Same logic.

Welker...er...Amendola will be a very productive 3WR in this league, assuming that he's got some talent around him. Let's face it: who EVER considered Welker an impact player prior to teaming up with the likes of Brady and Moss? Let me guess: NO ONE!! We will not be able to stash Amendola on our PS because he WON'T make it through waivers. Yes, he is young and still somewhat raw for NFL standards, but once he gets the speed of the game down, learns some of the tricks of the trade from the great CB's we have on this team, then he will be able to adjust his natural instincts to the speed of the game and make an impact.

In Koine Greek, which is the ancient Biblical form of the greek language, the word "Amen" literally means "truly". In time, "Amen"-dola will prove that he is the truth. If the Cowboys don't have the patience to wait for that to happen, then one day they will probably see him on the other side of the field making plays AGAINST us.

I KNEW last year when we let Matt Moore go that we had made a big mistake. And we let him go so that we could keep Joe Berger? No offense to Berger, but who would you rather have on your team at this point? Honestly? It was evident from his first preseason game that he had skills. Heck, in his first game as a starter for Carolina last season, he put up over 200 yards passing, completed over 60% of his passes, and had a touchdown, all in a losing effort. And this from a 3rd string QB nonetheless.

Sometimes talent is just evident. And Amendola has it.
