Remember Grantham was the DC for the Browns. And he coached the 3-4. Not much of a stretch to assume he could call plays.

dbair, for some it's not about him as a defensive mastermind, it's his tenure as a head coach.

folks just don't want him any closer to the big boy chair than he has to be.
I think Herring is more highly thought of by the players here. That is pure speculation on my part though.

You are correct. I don't want him anywhere near the big chair. I prefer him near the electric chair.

i bet Campo's teams would have been a lot better if he had the talent we have right now. Not only was he new to the HC position, but he was dealing with old players, injured players, and lots of dead money on the cap, which limited Jerry's ability to get him talent.

I am not saying he would have been a world beater, but I think if his teams had adequate talent they could have been 9-7 or even 10-6.

Campo- does he favor an attacking type of defense or read and react?

I don't think he is necessarily untrustworthy as much as he is tired of the being undermined by Romo and T.O. Somehow, someway the inmates have to stop running the asylumn. First and foremost the coaches have to get the power back. Public perception has to change about how the players are always right and the coaches are always wrong. Let's face it, the more that comes out about how immature, heartless and classless these players are, your perception of them changes. But unlike what you "think" about the coaches and their schemes etc. You are now getting backed up facts on how things really are at VR concerning the players, and now you will start holding them more accountable. Maybe no more free passes.

Bottom line though Jerry has to change on many levels. Some think he will. We'll see. I hope so.

As far as the DC, look at my response to your earlier post above.

If what you are saying is true I have never wanted Garrett gone more so than now. Coaches leaking info to the media screams of being a little witch. Man up and talk head up to the camera or to the player but do not whisper in reporters ears. That is just gay.

I do think St. Louis liked Garrett but Garrett didn't see much talent there and felt he could trust Jerry here. Also every other final candidate in St. Louis was defense. They went defense at the end of the day which may have been a philosophy decision. A good defense and Steven Jackson sounds like a way to win 9 games next year to me.

As to other stuff....

I think it is clear Herring was gonna stay here unless Wade was gone. He has no reason to go back to the college level unless it is for a head coaching position or he loses his NFL job. Collegiate assistants are not well paid at all and frankly it is harder to get a big name head coaching job in college than it is even in the pros.

Dave Campo was an excellent coordinator here. He has a lot in common with Norv and Wade. Good guy, great coordinator, too nice as head coach. But I doubt he wants to coordinate a 3-4 defense. Not that he couldn't. It is the same basic principles and coverage schemes as the 4-3... especially the Miami 4-3 that has speed players all over the field who were often undersized. I just suspect Campo has dealt with the prestige and the responsibility and now prefers like LeBeau and many others to "do him" and enjoy his life.

I don't see us hiring an outside DC. Wade has one year left and any coach coming here would see that as a huge risk.

I think Grantham makes sense of in house candidates. But I am not sure it won't be Wade in actuality. Same way Sparano was our OC even though we hired Garrett for the job in 2007.
