Reading comprehension? A said very few. The current people/residents not being one of them. Baghdad is a historical city as well...

Yes, you said very few redeeming qualities and then failed to mention any of them. Oh yeah, I comprehended your post perfectly, you were trashing the city of Philadelphia. Or was I misinterpreting "cesspool of a city?" Oh, and my sister lives in Philly, I happen to think she's pretty swell. Face it, you have no idea what you're talking about. I'm not convinced you've even been to Philadelphia since all you can offer on the subject is "bad people" and "cesspool of a city."

Not one giggle or like from my Yukon Cornelius reference.

I'm either old, not funny anymore, or both.

I live right over the bridge.
First, don't go to Pat's OR Geno's. The best steak is on South Street at a place called Jim's.
Second, the city is really nice. If people say otherwise...they likely haven't spent much time there. Obviously, it's a city. There's some undesireables, like every city. But most of it is really, really nice.
How long are you staying? The bar scene is good if you go to the right places.
I used to be a tour guide at the Linc. It's a really nice stadium. Went to the game last October and saw the W.

Head to Atlantic City and visit a nightclub....Haven or The Pool.....,you might even get to meet Jason Peters, big time gambler!!! In fact he just left at 5am this morning.....yup!!

Blah.
Stay out of AC. Not worth the crazy prices of everything. Haven was what I envision Hell being like.

But yes, the fans here are crappy. Their rep is at least partially deserved. Especially since it's a night game, I'm sure many of them will have been tail gating since 10 AM. They will be wasted. They won't be friendly with a Cowboys fan. I went to the game last October, and since my seats were good, I was sitting around a lot of families/more civil people. However, I did start jawing with a fan, who, as he was leaving, threw an empty water bottle at me. So, that's the worst thing that happened that day.

I've also had a beer thrown at me in the parking lot before a Phillies game...for wearing a Braves hoodie...to a Mets/Phillies game...

People are crazy, the food in Philly is great.
Di'Nics in Reading Terminal Market has a roast pork/sharp provolone/broccoli rabe sandwich that is to die for (the guy from man vs. food named it the best sandwich on the east coast).
There are ton of great restaurants, and a lot of small places as well.
Old City is great.

Was there this year when they played the Giants, what an amazing city. I'd recommend checking out the Reading Terminal in downtown Philly. The fans were as nice as any fans I've encountered, the only guy that had any issues around me was the moron that was in an Eli jersey, clearly looking for a fight.

I'll say it again to echo your statement:
GO TO READING TERMINAL MARKET (if possible).

You might be right about the cheese steaks, but would still recommend going to either because it's a pretty cool scene for someone who hasn't been to the city.

Neither was as good as I had hoped, but you're right, it's a great scene. The best cheese steak I had in Philly was at Phillip's.

No, they just don't know what they're talking about. I'm almost certain that 95% of the people on this board who are saying bad things about Philly have never even been to the city. They have no insight whatsoever, just use very general derogatory terms.

Yup, tired cliches and jokes when they don't really know anything about the city.

Anyone who's been there for any period of time should be able to recognize what a great city it is. I'm a history buff, and my brain hurt when we left, there's just so much to see, read, and do. I really liked the fact that the people there were very blue collar, felt very different than D/FW.

I was amazed at all the historical sites and I wouldn't even consider myself a history buff. But when you're there actually seeing these things, it becomes so much more powerful and real. For instance, someone like Betsy Ross has always seemed somewhat fictional to me, just a character that was created to put forth the story about the creation of the Amercian flag. But then you go to Philly and can stand right outside her front door. That's cool. Driving by cemeteries with tombstones that still have bullet marks from being hit during the Revolutionary War. That's cool.

If you are heading to the stadium area before the game, and have any interest in catching any other NFL games, I'd recommend Xfinity Live. Basically a big setup with a ton of bars right near the stadium, and the centerpiece of it is called NBC Sports Arena, with a ton of TVs that have any sport you could be looking for. I recommend grabbing beers at Victory Beer Hall. I'm not sure what it looks like on an iggles gameday, but I imagine it'd be a good time, if you don't have tailgate plans.

As for the rest of the city, I echo whoever said to check out Reading Terminal Market. My preferred cheesesteak is Jim's on South Street, or Steve's Prince of Steaks.

Otherwise, it's been awhile since I actually lived in the city (3 months back in 2010 for a work detail), so I can't speak for where the best nightlife is.
