i know BP is trying to implement a base 3-4. but with Fergy nicked up, i think the talent we have along the DL (Ware, Ellis, Glover, Spears, Fergy, Canty, Ratliff, and Pepper) we should stick to the 4-3 defense for now, heck u can put 4 of those preferably Spears, Glover, Fergy, and Ellis up front and still use Ware as one of the OLB's.

Answer...No.
We will have a much better rotation and will be able to be unpredictable (better pressure) on D with the 3-4...

I like Ware better as an OLB than a DE. I think he looks a lot quicker off the ball when he starts standing. He's also looked pretty quick in coverage IMO. I don't see any reason we can't run both, but I'd rather see Ware out there at OLB.

No, we need pressure and have not had it for so long. The 3-4 will be a blast to watch.

Coleman until Spears catches up.

BTW, I think we could easily change between 3-4 and 4-3 depending upon the opponent. THat said, I think we are a 3-4 team for the most part.

We'll play a lot of Nickel which is a 4-3 look.

Having 8 in a 3 - 4 just allows a greater rotation than having 8 in a 4 - 3. Since the guys are going to be asked to take on blockers and engage them totally every play (so they aren't free to get on the LBs) it only makes sense to rotate them in and out as much as possible.

I think you will see more 4 man fronts than expected simply because the DL depth is so deep. However, it will have the traits of a 3 man front.

The 4-3 Cover 2 is gone.

I still like a 4-3 over/under scheme. BP has mentioned this is his press conferences. I think it gets the best talent on the field.

I agree. We could run a 46 type defense with Ware as Wilbur Marshall-type LB. Or just play a 5-2. We have more "down" talent than we have backer talent. IMO.

We arent a 3-4 team regardless. Were going to show multiple packages, I dont know why everyone bothers arguing 3-4 vs. 4-3 were doin both

Did someone throw 46 into a 3-4 thread? Nevermind.

This is a base 3-4 thats cemented. Even the "nickel" as BP says is a 3 front technique.

4-3-onites - turn out the lites. Its truly over.

I see where you could think this would be better as a 4-3 because we have a wealth of down linemen. We are deeper there than we have been in years when we were a 4-3. Also, we were a little shallow at LB until we signed Fujita. Now we could actually go either way but we ARE going 3-4. So it is pretty much a moot point.

I'd agree that we need it....but just to mix things up once in a while. Too many players were brought in to suit the 3-4. Plus 3-4 puts more speed on the field and helps disguise who might be blitzing. Ware is much better 3-4 linebacker as someone has already said.

When we are 3-4 comitted -

Why would one throw a 4-3 thread out?

Just over and not happening. 4-3onites that continue to do that will carry that label. Similar to Hensonites as Romo was clearly #2.....all camp

I'll have an opinion after a couple of regular season games.

FINALLY!!!!!! someone that actually understands what will be going on this season defensively.

Who do you think Bill Belichek learned all his tricks of the trade from? And the patriots have been doing that type of play calling for the past 4 or 5 years now. Their base defense in last year's Super Bowl wasn't 3-4, but a 4-3.

Tuna will not allow the Cowboys to paint themselves into a corner by only playing one type of defense 80-90% of the time.

Just be ready to not know what is coming from play to play and game to game with this installment of Doomsday!!!!!

If they can avoid the injury bug the Cowboys will have a very dominant defense this year.

The pieces are coming together, sit back, cheer, and enjoy. Parcells' genius will show this year(and for at least 2 more, mark it down) with some great defensive play calling.

Do you really trust Ware in run support at DE? I mean I'm sure he would learn it, but he's only about 250, and that's not really that big. In the 3-4, theres a NG and an End occupying O Linemen, wheras in the 4-3, he would be exposed and would get overpowered by LT's. We will still see the 4-3, but not as muhc

I don't disagree with you at all, but doesn't it seem kind of ironic that one of the main reasons that we are switching to a 3-4 is to create more pressure yet we'll be going back to a 4-man front during passing downs when we run the nickel? The bottom line is we're going to play both (without Ty Law). :laugh2:
