Do you really trust Ware in run support at DE? I mean I'm sure he would learn it, but he's only about 250, and that's not really that big. In the 3-4, theres a NG and an End occupying O Linemen, wheras in the 4-3, he would be exposed and would get overpowered by LT's. We will still see the 4-3, but not as muhc

Yep, Ware would be a huge liability in run support as an every down DE. He would also ineffective by the 3rd quarter, because he would wear down.

why be predictable when we can mess with young qb's heads. this will be the most fun we have in a season since the haley arrival in '92. zone blitzes galore. and that's not counting the safeties and corner blitzes.

Answer...No.
We will have a much better rotation

Do y'all think we'll see much no-huddle offense from opposing teams this year to thwart our substitutions?

if we trot out Ellis Glover and Coleman as our 3 down lineman in our new 3-4, LT will run for over 200 yards.

i know BP is trying to implement a base 3-4. but with Fergy nicked up, i think the talent we have along the DL (Ware, Ellis, Glover, Spears, Fergy, Canty, Ratliff, and Pepper) we should stick to the 4-3 defense for now, heck u can put 4 of those preferably Spears, Glover, Fergy, and Ellis up front and still use Ware as one of the OLB's.

I think we would be a much better defense with someone othr than Zimmer as the DC, regardless of the formation.

When we are 3-4 comitted -

Why would one throw a 4-3 thread out?

Just over and not happening. 4-3onites that continue to do that will carry that label. Similar to Hensonites as Romo was clearly #2.....all camp

Because the DL depth is far better than the LB depth. Talent wise the team is better at DL as well.

Its called a football discussion. Something you whine about all the time, but never do. Instead you label people and try to divide the board. Its not about discussing football, but being right or wrong for you.

Dallas is going to run both styles of defense, this has worked with other teams namely the Pats and I feel confident that the Cowboys will be successful using both as well

Sure some teams will throw out the no huddle at us, The Jags just did...

Subs can also come in after change of posession, punts, KO or what not...
They don't have to come in during a drive.

We will still see a 4 man front at times, but in a nickle/dime where we will likely only be playing 2 LBers & a extra DB...

The change to the 3-4 was so we can get easy pressure by being unpredictable...So the offense won't know where its coming from and we should see easy mismatches like a Ware on a RB vs Ware vs a OT...

Doomsday is back, but so true Thumper!

Not all of those DL will be active on game day. Expect Johnson and either Ratliff or Spears to be inactive week one.

Thanks. I was going to say the same exact thing. Post after post of switching to the 3-4 even though the team was committed to the 4-3 and didn't have the personnel capable of just switching or showing multiple fronts. This team now appears to have better talent and can run the 3-4 and still remain flexilbe enough to show some 4-3 as well.

Exactly, Parcells has mentioned several times that young defensive linemen are a very valuable commodity and that teams have been scouting ours, so he'll keep them even if he can't play them all. I think they're being stashed and developed until next year when Ellis and maybe even Glover will be traded.

Muhast, thank you.

We're going to be using both. Ellis and Glover are going to be mainly used in the 4-3 packages, and a lot less in the 3-4 packages. Not just because they aren't made for the 3-4, but because we have linemen who can not only play in the 3-4 better, but can spell Glover and Ellis.

We can use Ferguson, Spears, and Canty almost exclusively in the 3-4, and use Ware, Ellis, Glover, and X linemen in the 4-3.

Parcells doesn't want to use Ware too much, too early either. Expect Burnett to get a lot of playing time in the 3-4 at right linebacker. When we switch to a 4-3, expect him to play weakside linebacker, with Nguyen in the middle, and Fujita on the strong side.

Did someone throw 46 into a 3-4 thread? Nevermind.

This is a base 3-4 thats cemented. Even the "nickel" as BP says is a 3 front technique.

4-3-onites - turn out the lites. Its truly over.
I would love if we can run the 46 with Roy

actually with the fact we are long on de's and short on dt's it's seems we will be more of a 3-4 now than before we stated camp

Look at all the 3-4 DE's

Spears 300
Canty 290
Coleman 290

We are clearly practicing and intend to play a 3-4 base defense this year. Pure and simple.

With ability to play some 4-3.

I don't disagree with you at all, but doesn't it seem kind of ironic that one of the main reasons that we are switching to a 3-4 is to create more pressure yet we'll be going back to a 4-man front during passing downs when we run the nickel? The bottom line is we're going to play both (without Ty Law). :laugh2:

I've noticed the same thing about our nickle...3-4 provides a better pass rush, we use the 4-3 on passing downs ???

Maybe BP is just showing that in pre-season, maybe our base will be a 4-3 on run downs and a 3-4 will be used on passing downs.

I think that we can play either is whats makes my mouth water.

With the large cache of DL it's clear we will be utilizing the 4-3 a great deal.

It's also clear Bill is in love with the idea of returning to 80's Giant glory with the 3-4 at the cost of playing lesser players, mainly because the draft has surpisingly dealt him 1.)an interesting Chris Canty 4-3 John Dutton Like Defensive tackle and 2.)a classic Charles Haley type, 4-3 pass rushing end in Demarcus Ware.

Add in training camp injuries to Spears and Ferguson and voila---

Dallas Doomsday Defense revisted the 4-3 Flexxed, now just teach DT Glover and DE Ellis to rush from the Flex position and Dat and Al Singleton's natural ability to move in space beind the flexxed line and were ready to go--it'll take Joe Gibbs 3-4 years to reestablish a Hog-like OL to overpower our new flex defense.

SD won';t know what Hittem.

Maybe I just don't get it. Why do people actually care which scheme we run? I don't and never have. Some will disagree with that and say I have argued for the 4-3 for 2+ years. No, I haven't. I've argued that we needed to upgrade the defensive personnel.

We have now acquired personnel who can run either scheme. This is a good thing. For the last 2 years we couldn't have effectively done this. The reason I say it is a good thing is simple, versatility.

There is not a doubt in my mind that Bill Parcells and Mike Zimmer will use whatever scheme they feel will work per a given situation and opponent. If one scheme is struggling but the other is tearing it up don't think for one minute that Bill Parcells won't use the one which is more effective. It's called winning. Parcells may have a big ego, but the biggest ego stroke is a win. He's not stupid. He will use what is working. Won't matter one iota whether it is the 4-3 or the 3-4 that is working. He'll dance with the one he's most likely to go home with. If ya know what I mean.
