Anyone buy an iPad 2?

Just curious... I've been checking now and then to see if stores have them in stock, but can't bring myself to pull the trigger when I see one might be available.

Not sure what's holding me back considering I passed on the 1st gen in anticipation of the 2nd gen. I've even got a $100 gift card to lessen the cost, and I still haven't purchased one.

Having purchased the first gen, I've decided to wait until iPad 3 before upgrading. But I was able to play with a co-worker's for a while last week. What I noticed:

1. The new cover is cool as hell.
2. The thinness makes a difference. Add that most people won't use a full body cover due to the new covers and it makes the device feel even more compact.
3. It's much snappier. Everything just feels noticeably faster.

Basically, if you're considering a tablet and don't have an iPad currently, it's a no brainer.

My son wanted one for his birthday so we ordered one, but it's on backorder. I think it is expected in the next week or so.

I got one the first day, but I don't need a tablet. I have found myself in the last two weeks using my MacBook a lot more than my iPad, so I listed it on eBay. The bidding has already gotten me back more than what I paid for it. 10% of the winnings go to the Jimmy V Foundation.

Not really. Just because I can't stand Steve Jobs and refuse to own anything that he has a hand in, doesn't mean I will subject my wife or children to that standard against their will also. My wife and both of my children have iPods. As a matter of fact, I surprised my wife with a iTouch a few years ago. She didn't even know she was getting it. (she didn't own nor ever ask for any type of iPod/music player prior to that)

My wife and children mean a whole hell of a lot more to me than my hate of Steve Jobs.

iPod touch*. There's no such thing as an "iTouch" ;)

until they have an expandable memory slot and allow for USB plug-in and such, I will not get an Ipad. I've got a smartphone, a tablet netbook, a Lenovo x61t tablet, and a Nook Color that has been rooted to run Gingerbread. Plus, I've got an Ipod Touch (rarely use it except to allow my therapy kids to play some games on it).

Yeah, I am kind of expecting them to release a 4G iPad to coincide with AT&T's rollout of their LTE network so that both Verizon and AT&T can simultaneously announce 4G iPads (and iPhones for that matter).

I'm just not sure if it'll happen this year.

I was also considering just getting a Macbook Air instead.

You could be waiting a while. Remember Apple waited a long time to offer a 3G iPhone, well after 3G service was prevalent. Their story was they wanted to wait until the service was built out completely and could handle the number of iPhones. So you may see a longer wait for the 4G too.

Of course, when they come out with that, they'll have something just as shiny around the corner you'll have to wait on. Honestly, between AT&T 3G and near ubiquitous WiFi nowadays, the internet is plenty fast -- in other words, I don't see 4G worth the wait.

I love the look and size of the Macbook Air, but I can't stand the Mac OS and will likely never buy an Apple product that isn't a handheld.

If you do decide to get a MacBook, do your homework first. I know there are some known issues with some of the new MacBooks crashing under load.

Yeah, saw articles on that but I thought it was mostly with Macbook Pros?

I don't doubt it. Some think we'll see a 4G iPhone in June, but I really doubt it.

Does it really matter? It's only a news item because they don't crash often and when someone has one that does, it's completely out of the ordinary.

You're not going to see a news story about a high dollar Windows machine crashing.

It might be. I don't actually know the specifics. (model, etc)

Windows vs OSX doesn't matter to me, but the stability of a machine I'd actually own is very important to me.

If that's the case, then obviously you go with a Mac.
