We signed the best pure pass rusher in free agency. If we get him only to finish the year what does that matter? We are trying to win the superbowl that is played in 2016. The one that is played in 2017 will take care of itself.

Having said that.... Anytime you sign a big name afterward... There will be some anticipation for what's next.

For me... Onto the draft

I think it is a little anti climatic because the expectations appear to be very high right now. Would like to see RoMac brought back and count me in the club that wants a real bellcow to replace what Murray did last year. Always going to be a little let down after most of us being so high the past week. Just think what this place is gonna be like when AP rumors start to legitimize like Hardy's did this week!!

DE is a position that you would pay to retain when the player is only 26 years old. I doubt if he performs the way I suspect he will with all those incentives, that Dallas will let him walk the way they did with Demarco at the running back position.

Where just now kicking the tires on this one. In 2015 we will be taking it for a test drive. In 2016 we will be the proud owners of a Pro Bowl DE.

Considering who his agent is and how they made a point to get the no tag clause in the deal, I'm thinking they're going to the highest bidder next year. No discount for the Cowboys.

But I certainly can't rule out the Cowboys being the highest bidder.

Yeah if he performs as he has, I can't imagine him not being a Cowboy long term.

I can't feel anticlimactic when we sign an elite pass rusher. And I honestly don't really care about Murray leaving. I think the guys we have and may draft will be more than up to the task of filling his role at least decently.

Murray's not even a blip on my radar. Didn't want. Don't care. Won't miss. If the Cowboys can't replace him adequately this offseason, shame on them.

Highest bidder based on what though?

A great 2015 season where his behavior and production are great? OK. Then what team benefitted from that? We did! So not only will we have every advantage outside of straight money, but we will have reaped all of the benefits of the player restoring his reputation and production.

Don't feel this way at all. The off-season is playing out like I hoped for the most part. I didn't want them to commit significant resources to Murray and I was salivating over adding Hardy. The hiccup is that they couldn't attach Hardy for a longer period, but there is still upside in the move. He could play out of his mind this year and help the Cowboys accomplish something AND help them get a draft choice down the road. Or they could just extend him, which I don't see as likely, but whatever. We still have the draft, but the Cowboys aoready majorly upgraded at the position they sucked maybe most at last year.

I agree with the OP. But the fact that this type of deal was agreed to by BOTH parties can't be overlooked. It seems the league isn't quite sure about Greg Hardy right now and not anxious to assume risk despite his elite talent. A year from now could be a different story if he plays well and no further personal conduct issues arise...

Let's hope for a great draft...

I feel pretty happy with where we stand. I hope Hardy gets an A+ for conduct and we have no regrets.

I am slightly surprised we gave him the chance to redeem himself. The rest of the league took the PC route and passed on him. I understand that completely. If Hardy is a good locker room guy, is productive and stays out of trouble, this will all pass and the FO will look good in hindsight. Count me satisfied.

I agree with BP that FA is mostly over. I do not see a way we get Peterson unless he gets released.
I can see us letting RoMac go.

siging off "content and wating for the draft".

And I will continue to log into this site and steal from the boss while I wait for the draft.

I definitely have that feeling, I guess the Hardy thing depends on what your hopes where when we did show interest as to whether you are disappointed.

My hopes where that this was a chance to lock in a Elite pass rusher for many years for a little under M.Williams type dollars or what a 26 yo Elite passer might get in today's free agency if he had none of the baggage.

Especially as we began to hear what was taking awhile was structure, I thought my hopes where about to come true.

Would I rather have him on a 1 year then not have him? I would but I thought we had another opportunity here for something bigger.

It means DE is still a priority in the draft and I was hoping we could have checked that box going into the draft.

And for the record, I don't have any anti-climactic feeling whatsoever. In fact, I'm more excited than ever for the 2015 season. This acquisition does nothing but improve the team's chances for a Super Bowl in 2015/2016.

Now I look forward to the league's next bogus ruling, the next ridiculous court case, and more speculation regarding the potential acquisition of Adrian Peterson.

I hear ya and understand your feelings about this.

The cowboys wanted to get Hardy in their grip. CHECK
The cowboys now at anytime offer big deal.
Hardy seems loyal per his other thread here.
He will see loyalty and money in Jerry.

I think it's a done deal. Longer term deal.

I remember what Jerry said when signing TO.
He wanted to know what TO wants. Jerry said, I know, the money... I can take care of that.
Meaning, I will give you what you want because I see the value in you. Same for Hardy.

The money won't be an issue.

I agree but I also don't know that the Cowboys actually want him long term. I think they are renting him until they get DLaw and another rookie DE from this draft more experience. Going into 2016 season, DLaw will be starting his 3rd year and the rookie we get this year (I still think OO will be the pick at 27) will be entering his 2nd year. Both are way cheaper than Hardy, but the gamble is will DLaw be as good or compariable to Hardy.

Unless something like an AP trade and sign happens...the FA off season excitement is pretty much over.

But the anti-climatic part is not the off season as a whole really...it is more about all the excitement the last few days concerning Greg Hardy and now that is over and feels a little anticlimactic.

One season at a time, my friend. We don't know what's going to happen with teams from one year to the next, so we should be excited about whatever the team does to win now.

I can understand being deflated by the contract, but we need to not look at the contract, we need to look at what we've got ... a dynamic defensive player who could help this defense go up another level, which would make us a contender if the offense continues to play well.

I think the Hardy contract is a sign that Dallas isn't just trying to build a champion, but is going for the title NOW. That also makes me believe that we cannot be done adding pieces for that push if we're renting him only for this year.
