Did anyone else like Malik Davis in the small sample size we got to see him the last couple years? I thought he looked good most times when he got the chance. I was looking forward to seeing him more when it was obvious Zeke just wasn't the same. But they seemed to think otherwise. I was really looking forward to seeing him after Pollard went down in the Niners playoff game. Yet again, they thought otherwise. Just thought he'd be in the top 3 RB's, but most here seem to think he's not gong to even make the team this year. Did he look that bad in pre-season? I don't watch until the games count, so never see any pre-season games.
Think he irrefutably was the #2 RB coming into camp, but not by a lot. Dowdle overcame the distance, I would guess, by earning a stronger rep in pass protection. Then, when Deuce showed what he showed, and being the unique asset he is, that's meant that the #3 slot was already claimed. Still think there's a fair chance Davis gets asked back to the practice squad b/c Dowdle's injury history has been what it's been, not to mention... and it really has been given the soft-shoe treatment... Dowdle made two fairly significant errors (fumble, and whiffed on ST resulting in blocked punt, of course) in the first two preseason games that plausibly won't matter until they matter... and they will matter if he makes another fairly significant error early in the season.
So the same thing can be said now for Dowdle... he's apparently going to be the #2 RB, but not by a lot... Davis may yet be a factor in the 2023 season ultimately.
