Anyone Else Like Malik Davis

I liked him and thought he would be #2. But he really hasn't done anything to impress. He did have the one nice run last night but otherwise he was uninspiring. Im fine wit Dowdle, Vaughn and even Luepke being ahead of him.

I think the physical limitations have caught up to Davis this season. Dowdle has been more talented, and Deuce is too. A RB running a 4.6 at 200lbs isn't ideal, you need a lil more there. We didn't get to see Jones, but I feel he would've showed up better too.

Malik will be cut because Vaughn is a team pet. Best decision would be to put DV on the practice squad and keep Malik, Rico and Luepke. No one is going to steal a 5’5 RB off the practice squad.

Did anyone else like Malik Davis in the small sample size we got to see him the last couple years? I thought he looked good most times when he got the chance. I was looking forward to seeing him more when it was obvious Zeke just wasn't the same. But they seemed to think otherwise. I was really looking forward to seeing him after Pollard went down in the Niners playoff game. Yet again, they thought otherwise. Just thought he'd be in the top 3 RB's, but most here seem to think he's not gong to even make the team this year. Did he look that bad in pre-season? I don't watch until the games count, so never see any pre-season games.
I like dowdle and duece better

The Cowboys showed no confidence in Davis when Pollard was injured against San Francisco. He didn’t get a single carry. He’s an average player who’s fallen behind Vaughn.

Deuce is clearly more explosive and electric compared to Malik Davis. There wasn't really anything he did that screamed, "We definitely need to keep this guy."

Dowdle established himself clearly as the #2 back after preseason play, which was pretty much assumed to be going to Malik Davis, but he just didn't pop in his preseason play. Deuce looked way better than people expected and offered something different than the other rbs on the roster, so he's 3.

Davis likely goes to the practice squad. He didn't even outplay Hunter Luepke in his last audition.

I still believe in Malik and feel he is a solid RB who could come in on an emergency if one of the RBs goes down for any length of time. It's a numbers game in the RB room. So hope he at least can be stashed in the PS. Might need him later during the season. Dowdle has had injury history and Pollard is coming off an injury.

Not really. I think both him and Dowdle are fringe 3rd HB's

This (SF game) really says a lot about what Dallas thinks of him. Didn't get much action in pre-season either. He's not making the final 53.

For sure, but its a numbers game at the moment and think Rico won that spot. Hopefully Davis ends up on the practice squad and can stay here.
They preferred Rico over Davis last year. They do so again this year, but now Davis has to fend off Deuce and Luepke for a spot.
Off to the PS, but likely cut before the season is done.

they don't trust him in pass protection
I'd slightly counter... it's that they trust others more than they do Davis. (Davis and Dowdle are not that much different in terms of production, but clearly Dowdle's gotten higher marks for his ability to block.)

Same can be said for Pollard, oh by the way.

Goes without saying, they're going to bite the bullet w/ Pollard, though, and just figure out other ways to compensate.

The Cowboys are going to be letting a good RB or two go when they make their cuts. I wish they could find a way to keep all of them but that would be stupid. I think Davis is one of the odd men out. He is similar to Dowdle. Do they keep Jones? I would like to see them keep Luepke because he is the one RB who is different than the rest, and would be the best receiver out of the backfield.

Davis' downfall really is that he's not great at pass protection. Given the importance of pass blocking by RBs in a WCO, won't be surprised if he gets cut.

When you see Dowdle replace Davis the prior week in passing situations, it's very telling. Also, Davis playing the final preseason game when Dowdle never played. Yes, none of these backs are like Zeke as pass protectors, but they cannot allow their QB to get killed, either. Wonder how they are going to use Duece in that regard.

Indeed.

Seems to me, you either have to have an extra blocker in the backfield (Luepke? McKeon? The next version of McGovern? Or someone not yet on the roster?), or never ever ever run anything but 3-step dropback pass plays when Deuce is in there. I'd opt for the former over the latter, me... but not that anyone on staff cares what I'd opt for. :)
