Indeed.

Seems to me, you either have to have an extra blocker in the backfield (Luepke? McKeon? The next version of McGovern? Or someone not yet on the roster?), or never ever ever run anything but 3-step dropback pass plays when Deuce is in there. I'd opt for the former over the latter, me... but not that anyone on staff cares what I'd opt for. :)
If they are rostering him, they expect him to be able to block, but they will pick the instances

I like Davis but I think he goes on the practice squad this year, at least early on. I think the Cowboys will roll with just three backs on the 53 in Pollard, Deuce, and Dowdle knowing they have plenty of callups for a 4th guy if they need one.

"Expect" = too strong a term, under the circumstances, right?

No way to magically make a man that small somehow able to block exceptionally larger people than he is.

Did anyone else like Malik Davis in the small sample size we got to see him the last couple years? I thought he looked good most times when he got the chance. I was looking forward to seeing him more when it was obvious Zeke just wasn't the same. But they seemed to think otherwise. I was really looking forward to seeing him after Pollard went down in the Niners playoff game. Yet again, they thought otherwise. Just thought he'd be in the top 3 RB's, but most here seem to think he's not gong to even make the team this year. Did he look that bad in pre-season? I don't watch until the games count, so never see any pre-season games.
Davis was impressive last season. I love DV. I think he's a gadget player. Davis is steady and dependable. Keep Davis!!

No I think he sucks. Poor balance and is always stumbling and falling. Hes a one cut guy.

The only RBs on the roster worth talking about are Pollard and Vaughn.

Dont you know. If you like Davis, you're a duece hater.
This is the problem here it is not deuce Vaughn versus Malik.. This is where fans don't understand that deuce Vaughn already made the team and he's gonna have a solid role here... He plays closer to what Tony Pollard plays so he can offer a lot to the offense..

It's Malik Davis versus Rico dowdle they're two very similar players that do very similar things and you can't have both so you have to choose one of those two..

We're gonna try always adding in Vaughan because you don't like him that's not what coaches are thinking and most sane fans who know who has the more talent both in the pass game and the run game and special teams that would be DV42..

So again stay on point if this guy likes Malik Davis he's gonna have to choose between Rico dao and Malik Davis that's what coaches are thinking right now

Davis had a run in with the staff the week before the playoff game. Something about him not wanting to practice or practice harder because he wasn’t going to see action anyways. Pollard goes down and they put him in for a play and I guess whiffed on a block and was pulled. A shame because that dump off play Pollard was hurt on was there all day. Moore was not paying attention.

We have a few RB trying out that might push him. Luepke looked good granted the last game was against the scrubs. Deuce is quickly becoming a thang.

First of all,

you guys are delusional nothing about deuce Vaughn says he's a gadget player...

he wasn't in high school or college he can play in the pass game, the run game, and special teams... he offers much more than Davis.

that's not the choice here you have, to think like the coaches, deuce already made this team,

this would be Malik Davis versus Rico dowdle.....

why do you fans think you get to choose?? you don't,

when deuce Vaughn didn't play Saturday,

you know he made the team...sorry haters

. Rico also didn't play, so you better hope that he did enough to take Rico's job, not DV42 job... that's what we're talking about here.. That is your only choice it's Rico versus Malik

And that's what fans are missing here this is not deuce Vaughn versus Malik Davis this is Malik Davis versus Rico Dowdle for a roster spot.. What you described in Pollard if Tony Pollard was to go down Deuce is the most like Pollard, he can do all those things.

I do like him. I admit Dowdle has looked a little better in preseason this year, but I still like Davis better.

Nevertheless, what I like him as is a 3rd team RB, not the #2 guy.

Yep I agree. Deuce will be a mini Pollard. Dowdle was looking good before his injury. But fumbled in the preseason. Not sure if that’s a one off or an issue. Plus Luepke looks to be versatile. But played against scrubs Saturday. How many RB do we usually keep.

I liked Davis a lot more after last preseason than this one.

He's fine and can be a rotational guy, but Dowdle was a lot more impressive this preseason.

I like him as a 3rd RB and a contributor on special teams, nothing more than that.

Yep and I would keep Luepke and only 3 TE's. I don't know why they have not let R Jones go yet unless they really think he has upside over Dowdle and Dowdle and Davis are going to the practice squad when Jones gets back from suspension.
