If your on a diet what kind of diet are you on?

I've lost 85 lbs in the last 3 years and gained back about 20 of it this football season.

So for New Years I decided to drop about 30 pounds and get my pants a little bit looser again.

Anyways for Breakfast I eat something with lots of protein.

Maybe some peanut butter and bananas. Or Eggs. Lots of OJ for Breakfast.

For lunch I eat just about what ever I want. Not to big of a portion but not real small either.

After I Get off work at 5 I go and work out for about an hour.

When im done working out I drink a protein shake for dinner. Or eat a banana. Something low calorie and drink nothing but water the rest of the day.

I take Centrum Silver, Fish Oil, and Viatamin C as well.

Anyone else trying to drop some pounds?

Eat an orange in place of the OJ, lots of simple sugars in the juice.

Well, I always pledge and re-pledge to not eat at fast food joints greater than once per wk. Somehow in my busy days when I'm out and about and I realize I missed this or that meal I find myself in the Wendy's drive thru. Usually 4-5 times a week. I have failed.

It's not a New Year's Diet, but rather a Doctor demanded one.

I had a freak thing happen to me about 6 weeks ago where I ended up in a Hosptial with what I thought was blood poisoning. I was on heavy antibiotics for almost 3 weeks. 10 days it was 4200 mg per day. 10 more days of 3000 mg per day. Very hard on the stomach.

In doing my blood work my triglycerides were a bit high. Not bad, but not good either.

My Doctor has me on a No Carbs diet for 3 months. I did not even have a lifesaver or a piece of gum during all the Christmas candy everywhere time.

I have lost 14 pounds and gone down a pants size in just over a month. I did this with no exercise at all, just diet. I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon to see if he will release me to begin working out again. They've been afraid the infection could come back if I didn't take it easy.

I've built a new weight room and am going to paint it this weekend and try and get carpet installed next week. I have so much weight equipment not being used. I plan to change a lot about my life this year. Health and weight is just one of them. So far, so good.

I wish I could drink OJ. I have acid reflux so whenever I eat/drink something acidic it comes back up, badly. Really sucks. I miss drinking OJ.

If any of you are working out and the ankles/knees/hips/etc... are bothering you try some Glucosemine (sp?). That stuff can be bought over the counter at any drug store (or grocery store). It basically keeps your joints lubricated. It has worked wonders for me. So many times I just didn't have it in me to work out cuz of all the joint pains, but I don't get that anymore.

I've been on a New Years diet for like 5 years.

I always have a lot of luck with Atkins/South Beach diets. Which are basically low carb/high protein diets.

Right now, though, instead of dieting, I'm running 4 miles a day about 4 or 5 days a week. It's pretty good at taking the holiday pounds off.

P.S. Hope you're feeling better Hos!

P.P.S. Thanks for the advice on the Glucosimine Rack! I do have some knee issues when I run that much. I'll try it!

No problem, DW.

Try and get one that has an ingredient in it called "MSM" in it. I'm not sure what it is, but it's suppose to be real good for you. My fiance had explained it to me but the only part I retained in my memory was "It's good for you". :D

Rack is right. Glucosimine works well. Helps my knees especially when I am into running.

Also I have had a couple of friends see doctors about their knee problems. The doctors said they didn't have major damage or tears. They just had to work on a better balance in their leg strength. One friend has strong quad muscles, but weak hamstrings. The other had strong hamstrings, but weak quads. The docs in both cases just had them do leg strength work to better balance out the muscle groups. It is working well for both of them.

I'm an unofficial member of a diet pool. My friends all put in $100 and it's up to $1300 for who can lose the most percentage-wise by July, I think.

I didn't put in the pool, but I participate with them. My diet has always been fairly healthy, but I'm going to incorporate more exercise into my life. Put my home gym to use for a change. Maybe start reffing again... Took off this year.

I gained 10 holiday pounds and have already lost 6 of them. Now I just need to drop some real weight.

I wish I could get you guys to start taking fish oil. I try to spread the word to all of my friends and family.

The omega 3's in fish oil are an essential for your body and the American diet doesn't always get a lot of it.

It would be like taking Protein out of your diet.

I have some videos for those of you who would like to learn more about it.

They are kind of long but after you know all the benefits of Fish Oil/Omega 3's and start taking it then you will become a much healthier person.

Congrats. I can't imagine losing that much weight without exercise. You really have to be determined mentally.

Once I start getting into a day to day grind of exercising though I really enjoy it. I feel much better after I workout.

Even after a hard days work and I come home dead tired i'll go workout and it gives me a refreshing energy.

I got up to 310 pounds (6'4 btw) at school and I decided it was either become miserably big or lose the weight.

I dropped down to 235 this past summer and my new goal is 225.

I've gained back 10 lbs this football season though. So im going to clean my eating back up.

If your serious about not wanting to eat at those places you need to sit down and think of a plan on a better way to eat healthier.

Its just like football.

Come up with a plan and then execute it. If you execute the plan you will succeed.

If you don't have a plan your probably going to be eating that new 99 cent double cheeseburger at Wendy's.

I shared this story with a poster on this forum some time back and it inspired him.

I have a friend named Burt who was a very heavy for his frame 300 pounds. He went out and bought a treadmill and started walking on it while watching TV in the evenings.

He lost 120 pounds in about a year. Now he is not only maintaining the weight but competing in triathlons.

The poster I shared this story with got inspired and lost like 85 pounds.

Thank you. I am.

Funny story about when I first started losing the weight. A lady I have known and worked with for 3 years said, "oh you shaved." I told her I shave every day. She said, "didn't you have a mustache?" I told her not for 7 years.

True. I should have a clearly defined plan and be more disciplined in this regard but old eating habits are hard to break. I'm not trying to lose weight, just stop consuming what amounts to delectable trash. I have tried to counter that with supplementation though. I think it was you up thread who suggested fish oil? Anyway, I've been taking Cooper Complete fish oil for 2 yrs now which has raised my HDL and lowered my triglycerides. Also take Vit D,E,Co Q10(because I'm on a Statin), Lutein L-Carnitine and B Complex.

I've wagered that this offsets a less than stellar diet while I try to mend my ways.

I take 3 a day.

Good deal.

I was taking them for about 3 weeks without knowing what all they did.

I had kinda been depressed for no reason really and im just sitting around one day and I thought to myself, "man I feel freaking fantastic".

Well I read up on fish oil and it helps with all kinds of things including depression.

It even helps you heal faster.

It kills off inflamatories of all different kinds in your body. Its almost to good to be true.

Guys thank you for this information. I am 5'8 240 pounds and I have high blood pressure and acid reflux. I didn't know that drinking OJ made it worse. I needed to hear that.

Catch17 I have been taking fish oils for about a year now and they have made a big difference in my life. My goal is to get in shape in 2008. That means spiritually and physically. If you guys have anymore tips it will be very much appreciated.

I also have problems with my knees so first thing in the morning I will grab me some Glucosemine from the health food store.

Right now I am walking 3 miles a day 5 times a week and I stopped eating after 8pm. So far I have lost 3 pounds in 2 weeks.
