Anyone else that play was designed to hurt Romo?

We have seen the bolded, we've never seen this stunt the giants pulled. Maybe someone needs to post the vid

Here is the vid. I thought that was an odd play myself ... a bit of a cheap shot, but other than the hit itself, I don't see anything wrong with the design.

How does a 224 lb guy like Williams knock Free down like he is a bowling pin?

I guess I am confused at what is allowed with hitting the QB.

The defender lowered his head and hit Romo in the ribs.

I thought hitting with the crown of the player's helmet was a violation of the rules
.

That is my question too.

Especially on QB's, ... we are always hearing announcers saying, "they are really protecting QB's now and that will always be called."

He was off balance because the man he was pushing on (blocking) unexpectedly backed off. It was a precision timing play and they executed it well. I still say it was designed to get a free shot at Romo which is fine except the free shot included the crown of a helmet to Romo's ribs.

I've been watching football for over 35 years and I've never seen a play like that. Free's man engaged him and then backed off on purpose just in time for a perfectly timed blindside. Meanwhile the man that backed off looped around and buried the crown of his helmet straight into Romo's ribs. They did it to Romo two years ago when they drove him into the turf and I thing they tried to hurt him again on that play. That play looked designed all the way and the shot to the ribs looked intentional to me.

I think they went after the QB, nothing dirty about the play. I felt on the play Romo did have time he held on to allow Williams to clear and delievered the ball taking the hit in the process. It is football

Sorry did not see the crown of the helmet I saw the defenders shoulder hit Romo not the crown of the helmet. Frankly Dallas got some good calls in the game some I felt we may have gotten away with.

You must be looking at the wrong guy because Kiwi clearly leads with his helmet directly to Romo's ribs. It's not even questionable.

I have a basic question , if the ball is gone from QBs hand how can be a helmet hit on QB is not a personal foul, all QBs in the league get that call. except Romo., it seems.

I have never seen that play before and I have been playing and watching football for 35 years. You are not allowed to crackback block anymore and there is no way a defender can run away from the QB to blindside an OL. Defenders cannot grab and pull an OL off his block and this is ten times worse.

Yeah, that was my thought as well, I've never seen that play, having a second defender make a run not at the qb, but to block an offensive lineman away from his guy. I have no idea if that is legal, illegal, immoral, unethical, genius, smart play, whatever. I've just never seen it before.

I'm sorry but yes it is. I saw the play I see the guy lower his shoulder and yet head but there is not way to drop the shoulder without lowering your head I did not see a crown of the helmet hit Romo. Refs did flag NY on the night for low hit on Romo for a 15 yard roughing but on that play I saw nothing that made me feel a flag should have been thrown.

I completely agree with this.
You're telling me running backs can no longer lead with the crown of their helmet, but it's not a penalty for the Giants to deliberately take out our RT so that the defensive end he's blocking can bury the crown of his helmet in our QB's ribs. Right-o, NFL. Right-o.

Because he took the hit as he was throwing it. It is part of the game. I felt Romo held the ball a bit too long on the play as he was waiting for the WR to clear. He could have dumped it off and avoided the hit

When you're not suspecting a blindside like that, it doesn't take much to knock you over. Size really doesn't matter in a situation like that, also did you see how much momentum he had? Can't blame Free on that play at all, blind sided.

I agree, Free was engaged with the DE on the play and was blindsided, if anyone is to blame then it goes to Murray

The Giants like rolling up on ankles. They did that to Romo in the second half when they got the late hit flag. That's what happened to DeMarco a few years ago. They're a dirty team.

They rolled up Dez just last night.

I hate that team. Felt good to beat them.
