Despite all the Media Slobbering over Sheli, he cannot win a game that he has to shoot it out with anyone. He loses all the time there unless the other team gift wraps it. THe saints did not. And the Giants got slaughtered.

This. It's very seldom that Eli actually has to play from behind and throw the ball a lot. When he does, he looks like like the Eli we've come to know and love.

when they are scoring over 40 and their D is only giving up 20 something.....it doesnt matter if their D isnt very good.

BTW, the additions of Sharper and Coach Williams have drastically improved that Saints defense. While they arent a top 5 defense, they are good enough to compliment that high powered juggernaut offense.

I don't agree with this. It does matter if their D is good enough. They aren't going to score 30-40 points every game and when they don't is their defense going to be good enough to win them a game, a big game. I think the jury is still out.

They have done nothing to convince me that they aren't the most dominant team in the NFL. They don't play great defense, but they do enough to make sure the offense is in a position to win the game. Their defense won't win a game, but their offense will.

That's their offensive mentality,everytime they touch the ball they intend to score points.If they don't score on a drive they seem to look somewhat pissy on the sidelline,unlike the "oh well we'll get'em next time" attitude around here.I think you are right about the defense,they are good enough to compete.

They have been putting up points for a few years, now it looks like they can play some defense. 48 points against Philly and NY. Could be this year's version of 2007 Patriots.

The Saints just got lucky. Everyone knows the gnats have the best GM, best coach, best QB, best WR's, best RB's, best DL, best defense and best fans...... Sorry guys, I have been brainwashed by bspn and the New Yuck media.

I am trying to think of a SB winner that had a less then top 10 defense in the last 20 years. Not sure what the 01 Patriots had. Even the Rams had a top 5 D the year they won.

The Colts were 21st in yards and 23rd in points. So they were a bad defensive team that year overall. I remember them really picking it up later in the year however.

Here's some food for thought.

In 2007, NE scored 36.8 ppg. They gave up 17.1 ppg that same year. Granted, they didn't win the SB, but they got there.

So far this year, NO is scoring 36.0 (I don't think today's score is included) and giving up 16.5.

I'm not trying to drawn comparisons between the 16-0 Patriots and this year's Saints, but it is eerily reminiscent of the '07 Patriots. A high-powered offense and a bend-but-don't-break defense.

Just saying.

They picked it up right when the playoffs started. The 1st game was against KC and Larry Johnson. ALthough to me it was very easy to stop LJ in that game because Trent Green couldn't complete a pass and KC didn't have any WR's worth a darn except for Gonzales and he's a TE. Then they played the Ravens who again weren't a strong offensive team that year and then they played the Pats and gave up 34 points I think and that was without a Moss or Welker. Then the Super Bowl against the Bears. Again a team that wasn't good offensively. Looking at that run they made it was great obviously because they won the SUper Bowl but they didn't exactly face the greatest offenses in the world.

The biggest thing that impressed me about the Saints is that they played a realtively clean game.They made some plays down the field and didn't shoot themselves in the foot with penalties(offense).They also didn't gift wrap 4 turnovers to the Giants.They had a game plan and stuck to it and most of all didn't let up until the game was almost over,I think they played the backup QB for 2 series.

Yep. I only saw their first two TD drives but they were impressively well managed. They looked like they knew exactly what they were going to do on every play and then they went out and did it.

Are they great? Who knows, maybe not. But they're going to be awfully tough to beat.

I don't see the Saints going 16-0. They will probably go 13-3 or something like that. That Patriot team was such a powerhouse. The Saints have a great offense but I just don't see it with them.
