Anyone interested in Merriman in 2010?

His past behind him, would anyone be interested in this linebacker for the strong side outside linebacker position opposite of Ware when he is a free agent in 2010?

Assuming of course Anthony Spencer doesn't work out.

I think this dude could be a stud for us if he comes back healthy in 2009.

I could just imagine what Wade Phillips could do having him and Ware.

Wait never mind we still haven't signed Ware have we.

If you weren't embarrassed enough after your futile attempt to compare romo and Tom Brady, you have done it again. Have you not been keeping up with the news of the CBA and all the rules that will be in place if there is no salary cap in 2010? Heres a hint, if you don't have 6 years of play after 2009 without a CBA resolution, then you are a restricted free agent. So if that happens which hopefully it doesnt, then Merriman isn't going anywhere. And if there is a resolution to the CBA, and if Merriman isn't franchised, then giving him the money he would demand after the mega deal D.Ware will get, plus all the high draft picks (Spencer, Carpenter) and draft picks this year, it would make no sense to sign Merriman.

But does anyone ever know with this team, considering the last 15 years Jerry has put this team through, neither he nor the team deserves the benefit of the doubt.

The people that are idiots are those that wouldn't want him. Of course you would want the guy. The question is just at what cost.

Let's be real, we know the cost and we all know it will NEVER happen.

And you know what the cost will be. Were not talking about Greg Ellis. This is Shawn "Lights out" Merriman. Why sign him when we have other needs on the team 2 years down the line. We have some guys that are up there in age and could be replaced via free agency. I think you are the idiot.

Merrimen has already had his replacement picked up in the first round of the draft. He almost certainly wont be franchised.

Obviously, Merriman is not an option.

But it make me wonder this: Has there ever really been a team with two independently top-end pass rushers? And if so, what are some of the top tandems that come to mind? I know we, for instance, had Ellis and Ware both with double-digit sack and Pro Bowl seasons once, but I'm talking a team with what amounts to two Wares.

I don't think there's ever been another Ware, much less two on the same team.

I don't know why you guys are saying it will NEVER happen. They just signed SHaun Phillips and Jyles Tucker to big deals just a few years ago. They also drafted Larry English. I don't know about you guys but the second the Chargers drafted him I thought "Well bye-bye Merriman". They arn't resigning him.

I will however take his teammate Marcus McNeil at all costs in 2010. 6yrs 70 million. Let's get it done.

Phillips - 2/20/2007: Signed a six-year, $31 million contract.
Tucker - 8/25/2008: Signed a five-year, $14.65 million contract.

Hardly "BIG money" IMO.

Oh and guess what. Merriman is younger than Phillips and about the same age as Tucker (25). Both Phillips and Tucker's stats don't even compare to Merriman's.

IF Merriman comes back and plays "lights out" they'd be crazy to let him go.
