He's clearly trying to call a timeout. I don't see what the big deal is, though. That was a critical point in the game, and it sure looked like the Commander had taken off his helmet in real time. That's the kind of thing you'd want him to do. It's also no surprise that Tony either had a better view of the incident or heard the officials discussing why it wasn't a penalty given that he was actually on the field. This is more-ado about nothing in my book.

You got it Idgit. It is just more par for the course from the same section of the stands. It goes on every Sunday.

If it doesn't matter then why not be honest about it? Why stop trying to create something that isn't there? Garrett didn't "stop himself". He made a stupid decision, a rookie coaching mistake, and his QB had to bail him out and fix it. Focused on the official? No, in fact, he is looking in the complete opposite direction while walking toward Romo and the official before he turns and calls timeout.

Yes, I hope we win next week. But that's not what this thread is about. As much as you want to take the spotlight of Garrett's inept coaching, we aren't going to.

He's not inept. He's done a good job and I hope we win next Sunday. The ineptness is found in a group of fellow fans who have a single narrative that they play no matter how a game turns out.

Funny how you gloss over him clearly saying, "What's that, why did you reverse the call." He was wanting them to stop the playclock to explain why they picked up the flag. You also cut it off where he waves the referee over to get the explanation.

He may have, but he stopped himself and then asked for the call. If you have ever coached anything in your life you can identify with that. If you haven't then you can't. Sometimes the brain kicks in initially and says "timeout", then you catch yourself and say, "let's let this thing run." If Tony caught it first, good for him, and what is the big deal? Was the timeout called? No. Did this team show the resilience and fight that EVERY one of you Garrett haters said was gone? Yep. Proving you wrong once again. You guys said the team would lay down. They didn't. They fought to the last play, and OH NO, they won! Your worst nightmare.

And you know what? If they win next week, they are in the playoffs. Go Cowboys!

Not sure if the above poster has the ability to see vine videos at this point.

Clearly? Wow, you developed pretty good lipreading skills in the last 5 minutes if you went from completely denying that the timeout attempt ever happened, to now being able to decipher word-for-word exactly what he says a few seconds later.

Are you saying that asking for an explanation on the call is a valid excuse for calling timeout? Because I think that's even worse than burning the timeout just out of plain cluelessness.

The big deal is it signifies poor game management again. Letting as much time run off the clock as possible is the right thing to do in this situation, especially with the defense as bad as it is, if the team scored. Calling a timeout leaving that much time on the clock really allows for nothing beneficial to the team. The Skins would just run out the clock after a turnover on downs.

Ok. I watched it. First though I would like to say that I am not for or against Garrett staying on as head coach so I am giving an unbiased approach.

The first link. It does look like he could be saying time out. However the hand gestures that immediately follow dont make any sense for a coach concerned with just calling a timeout. So there is clearly something else going on there or something additional that I can not determine.

The second link shows tony talking to Garrett but there is no telling with any certainty what is said. That is a useless shot. It's the back of romos head - there is no way to speculate what is happening there.

A good job at what? If youre really being honest with yourself then there is no way you can say he has done a good job coaching

Letting as much time run off the clock as possible is the right thing to do in this situation, especially with the defense as bad as it is, if and when the team scored. lol.

#1 - There was no timeout = that doesn't represent poor time management
#2 - You have no idea what that conversation was on the sideline, word for word, nor do I.... so default to point #1
#3 - If you focus on point #1 you lose all your steam
#4 - So you guys focus on your imagination of point #2 and make it what you want it to be

hmmm. wonder why you would do that?

Had he not addressed this with the officials, the thread would be about how he never stands up to them on bad calls. Or something equally silly.

Like Tony said in his post-game presser: this is the third year in a row we've playing in a winner-take-all game in week 17. We've lost the first two, which, we all agree is not good enough. That said, we're the only team that's been in all three of those games the last three seasons, so we're at least doing something right.

I'm perfectly happy to admin the mistakes and the fact that we're not good enough, either in terms of personnel or in terms of our coaching overall. I just wish the alternative didn't have to be that the team is a disaster, coached by an idiot, who's a puppet for a drunken egomaniac who doesn't want to win. If you're going to pass out the blame, liberally, when the team falls short, you also need to give some credit where it's due. This was a good win today, when we could have folded and when we had to have one. Jason Garrett did his job today. It's ok when that happens from time to time.

I agree, and this is an honest take, but it won't resonate with those who want to see it otherwise.

Seriously? You don't need to sugarcoat it. In the first video it's 100% crystal clear that he says timeout, makes the hand signal, then Romo stops him. No need to dance around it and try to be nice about it.

So wanting to know why it isn't 1st and goal at the 5 versus 4th and goal from the 10 is bad? The level of stupidity shown in this witch hunt amuses me to no end.
