Anyone still happy about the 5th round pick?

i can understand that Gilmore played on a horrible team so maybe didnt play as well.

I think they are very comparable. Not sure where you are getting PFF from. It was never mentioned.
They are comparable but you said Peterson was better last year and to come to that conclusion it either has to be pff grades or interceptions.

Good move by the FO. It makes sense and doesn't hurt the long term status of any player. Maybe Bland can learn from him to become a starting #2 next year.

We get on the cowboys for their trades, but to know that we got a good player yesterday and used only a 5th, I'm still in shock.

We're known for being generous and not making trades while other teams make it look easy. Guess we can't say that anymore. Keep up the good work cowboys. Do you foresee anymore trades like this?! Share your happiness, feels damn good to wake up happy for once!!

The league-wide hit rate for a 5th rounder is probably somewhere in the 30% range. If you get something close to 2022 Gilmore for 1 season, the trade is a home run.

Getting an A should be recognized and commended. However, report cards, even NFL report cards, are not restricted to one or two grades.

Jerry and Stephen Jones will be graded by their overall offseason free agency and draft decisions. Hopefully, the grade curve stays high and does not dip or bottom out as the offseason progresses.

Its not the picks but the 9M in cap space that concerns me. Gilmore WAS a great CB, but he is not that guy anymore.

Thats a lot of money for a 32 year old CB with an unknown amount of juice left in the tank.

A lot of good players are being retained, especially for the defense.

It was good short term move to shore up the secondary with a day one starter and gives them a year to further develop that DB room. Hopefully it will motivate Diggs to play behind his pads a bit more.
If anything it will give Diggs more opportunities for interceptions because the QB cannot abuse Gilmore like Brown and whoever else was on the opposite side.

They will have to go His way more often now . . .

They have cap space only bc they restructured a bunch of contracts. We usually do such things so we can extend other guys. I hope Gilmore can still play. Indy apparently didn't think so.
Their fans say otherwise . . . but you came to your conclusion just because they traded him

It's one year.

And he was really good last year.

He's a big upgrade over Brown. Think of it this way. Gilmore at $9 million and we are paying Lewis $5 million? Gilmore at $9 million is a way better option (I really think we should just cut Lewis at this point).

Quinn was actually a pretty good trade.

And I believe this one is as well. And I had no issues taking a flier on Bennett. We needed pass rush help and he was worth the risk.
Oh I’m not complaining. I’ve been screaming for them to use picks and trade like they did for Quinn. They’ve nailed these trades. I’d still do it. Bennett was pretty good for a 6th. Didn’t see them doing it for Gilmore but glad they did.

Yea I hear ya. Last year was terrible.

Round 5: No. 167 – DaRon Bland, CB, Fresno State

Round 5: No. 176 – Damone Clark, LB, LSU

Round 5: No. 178 – John Ridgeway, DT, Arkansas
Worth noting that you can trade up into the 5th round if they really want a 5th.
