Enough excuses for Romo. We've had countless years where this team was made more Romo friendly and this guy keeps getting protected. He's not the only reason for this loss, but he's part of it. We got rid of TO because he was a 'locker room problem', we got rid of 'the mouth' Patrick Crayton, we got Romo's guy in escobar, we got him an all new O-line, he has arguably the best TE in football in Witten and he had a runningback is averaging over 5 yards a carry. Automatic field goal kicker in Dan Bailey. What else does he need to win?

Yeah, the defense shares a lot of the blame for letting Flynn and crew put up a lot of points, but we were UP and winning the game until Romo throws that first interception. He gets the ball back and only has to march down the field and kick a field goal. Crunch time, chance to redeem himself. What does he do? Throw another interception right after that.

If you can't figure it our for yourself by this point you're blind. I like Romo, he is undoubtedly a top 10 QB, and he has won us several games. But he has also been a significant part of us losing many big games. He is not THE reason that we lost today, but he is a large part of it. He has to be blamed just as much as anyone else.

He was not even close to being a large part of it, and this was not a big game, it was largely a meaningless game. You're as blind as a bat.

That was a meaningless game? Wow, this isn't even a conversation worth having. If we had won this game, we would have been in an excellent position to clinch the division next week, and that doesn't qualify as important to you? I'm not going to waste my time debating with you.

It was a tough loss to swallow but the Philly loss makes it largely a meaningless loss. The problem is you are just a sheep to the national media so for this loss to make news this has to be a "big, national spotlight loss". How is it the Cowboys play so many more "big" games than any other team? No one is going to remember this out of division game in two weeks. Every game on our schedule can't be a big game.

So you are absolving Romo of any significant blame. Correct?

I have thresholds to which I can blame areas of a football team. I am not blaming the offense when what is on track to be the worst defense in league history allows 5 straight touchdown drives including 3 80 yarders. Similarly, I would not "blame" the defense if they gave up a game winning drive to lose 7-3. The defense failed at the end last year in Washington, but I always blamed Romo and the offense for that mess.

I'm disappointed Romo screwed up at the end of the game but it never should have come to that. So no, he gets no blame and once again I'm sick of the defense free pass ("we know it's bad, so stink up the joint all you want"). Now evaluating his performance today, I think there is a lot of room for improvement no doubt. Terrible throw to Miles, bad underthrows that we all saw. And whatever culpability he has in the play calling.

Romo was supposed to be more involved in the gameplanning and scheme than he was before. We heard that all offseason. He gets his just deserts.

I'm betting the Romo lovers were sitting at the TV going, don't mess this up Romo, don't prove the hate
You guys that want to point the finger at the defense are misguided. Its not what SHOULD be or how well they SHOULD play, its being realistic about what this defense IS. You might line up against a Vette and lose and blame your car, but if you bring a Chevette from Iowa City to the race you cant blame the Chevette. This defense is like a Chevette. Expecting Corvette performance from the Chevette is nothing but lunacy.

This offense failed in the 2nd half. They should have poured it on. They should have run the ball and eaten up the clock so the defense wasnt put in a position to lose. This game was gift wrapped like a Christmas present and the offense basically gave it back because they could have done better. Much Better! And they have the horses to do far better. The defense doesnt. 10 2nd half points by this offense today is pitiful.
Pretty solid post.

I think my stand is firm on Tony Romo. It takes a certain person (quarterback) to go in certain situations and mentally keep it together no matter what the situation is. All quarterbacks aren't wired this way. It's one thing to throw the ball up and down the field when there's no pressure on, in an early regular game. It's another thing to have a situation where things just broke down around you, yet you have to keep it together mentally to get your team the victory.

Just because you put up monster numbers doesn't make you a winner. A winner will have to deal with situations that were unexpected. Weather, dropped passes, protection break-downs, bad defenses. I agree to a certain degree that it takes a TEAM to win a championship. But if you have a great QB, he will be in those playoffs most of the time, he may not win the title until they beef up the talent.

I truly believe we have a dominant offense, but Romo is holding us back. He and Callahan with Garrett facilitating the entire operation. I don't believe Callahan and Garrett gives their team a chance to be successful. But when you audible out of a run, or change things up, you are directly responsible for what happens, not the coaches. And no matter what they call, they certainly don't call for you to throw an interception. AT the end of the day, you have to be smart with whatever play you have.

It seems like Romo's been the QB here for decades, I can't remember the last time we had another QB here besides him. It's past time to move on. This process should take 2 to 3 years to complete, but it starts in the draft 2014. And I don't care how many QBs you have to go through, you will know when you've found THE ONE.

Getting FGs instead of TDs is also to blame.....Romo is what he is...they should have never been in that situation in the first place. We forget it could have been over earlier if they had given GB that first pick.

Why would they GIVE someone a pick they did not catch?

regardless what happened in those previous 58 minutes, the fact is the team was down by 1 point with 1:30 left and 1 timeout and Romo could not get it done again. In fact he did what he always does, choose the most dramatic way to lose by throwing an interception. This guy is a choke, he is a cancer, he is a curse on this franchise. I cannot wait till we have a new QB.

totally agree.. does kiffin deserve some blame...yes but is it kiffins fault he doesnt have the players. i dont think he forgot how to run and teach his defense. its just that this team never had the players for the type that he runs and he never should have been hired in the first place. not sure what jerry was thinking to make the switch. who got in his ear to make the change?

Honest to God Im not trying to be mean but some of you have no clue. So Romo is holding us back. Not EJ Manuel not Brandon Weeden or Jason Csmpbell or even RGIII but Tony freakin Romo is holding us back...are you serious? Look at what's out there. You guys are so myopic it's scarey. A head coach put his QB in a position to fail and he did - what a shocker!

We have wasted the career of one of the greatest stories in NFL history so far and it might not ever turn. But it's the same ten precenters who pile on without a clue know magically who will fill the void of 30 TDs & 3000 yards in a league where ten people on this planet can play the position at a high level.

Oh wait....my bad it's Ssm Bradford!

Clueless clones grasping at straws -I would say unbelievable but then again not from this fan base.

I don't blame the loss on Romo - HOWEVER, he did have, YET AGAIN, a chance to get the naysayers off his back by winning a big game and well, let me put it this way, he has certainly not gained my confidence as a clutch QB. Romo did NOT lose this game, he didn't win it either, and that is why Jerry paid him the big $.

dont know where you are getting one of the greatest stories in the NFL from.

The coaching staff called a play that had Bryant wide open on a go route svereal times and romo couldnt connect. I dont have any problems with play calling except when romo changed the play.

Garrett gets the blame for a dysfunctional offense but Romo has been the QB he has had the entire time.

The QB has more impact on the success of the offense than the OC. That is why some teams completely tank when their QB gets hurt. Same Coach, same playcaller but the result is entirely different.

I beleive the dysfunction on this offense is more related to Romo than Garrett.

My head needs to be examined but not because of my opinions on Romo. He made mistakes that he should not have made. Disappointed in the choices he made.

This is the best take and my thoughts too... except that this wasn't a big game.

Would it have been a meaningless game if it was a win? So far, many have postulated denver, kc and gb are meaningless losses. However, 7-7 < 10-4. There is a good chance chi beats philly. The division was there to rest starters in week 17 since there is no way for bye. It was a complete choke - not without precedence, sadly

Also, this loss officially eliminates a WC chance.

Only 16 of these...they all matter

Meaningless is probably not the word I should have used. The point is, you can't just retroactively make this into a career defining game just because we lost, since I don't think anyone is going to say the Minnesota game was some magical win either. It was a tough loss, that's it. But people will be bringing it up years from now like they do the Jets game from two years ago, an out of conference game in Week 1.

I beleive the dysfunction on this offense is more related to Romo than Garrett.

Romo's mistakes were physical, not mental. Audibling out of a run is something he's taught to do by the coaching staff. The first interception was a bad throw, but it was absolutely the right thing to do according to coaching - therein lies the problem. He just happened to rush the throw due to the pass rush instead of setting his feet and throwing it. A foot in front and it could have been a TD. The second interception was a result of Beasley stopping on his route, a miscommunication between the QB who thought he was going to keep going to the sidelines due to the time and a receiver who decided to sit on his route.

The problem with Garrett is all of his excuses are mental, which is the only part of it. Unfortunately, it is inexcusable in any league to end up with a 48 to 18 pass to run ratio with a 26 - 3 lead and a 7 YPC and lose the game. Inexcusable. So I have no idea how anyone can think Romo is more of a problem than Garrett. If Romo is part of the problem, it's been known that he has to be reeled in at the right moments, which I s a responsibility of coaching, and is something BP said years ago. Unfortunately, BP reeled him in too much, and the current coach hasn't got a clue.
