Archer: Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said the following on 105.3 The Fan regarding the Cowboys quarterback situation with Dak Prescott and Tony Romo: "We probably are never going to have this sorted out. We're going to play this by ear."

Last time I listened to Talking Cowboys (weeks ago), Mickey mentioned how in the olden days guys would be brought in as relief qb's, but the starter still had the job after the game. He did NOT present it as something the Cowboys would do--he said teams would never do this today--but it's Mickey so I always wonder when he mentions something like that.

Meaning..

If we're down 17 points and Dak has hit a wall then Romo will come in and save the day...

Romo will come in at some point this year.

I don't know when but he will come in and he will rip up whatever defense is across from him.
I cant even imagine the size of the chip on Romo's shoulder right now. He has never had this kind of competition for his job. I think, if Romo is better in practice put him in, its that simple. I dont just hand him the job at this point, Dak has earned at least to be beaten out.

There is no bigger Tony Romo fan than me, but at this point I'm not sure the decision has much to do with Tony.

Jerry Jones tells @1053thefan that Barry Church is going to have surgery on his broken arm, but it won't change his timeline for return.

Well Dak, if you do end up hitting a wall or having a bad game (that eventually leads to Romo starting) can you please do it against Baltimore or Tampa?

I don't think I could stand losing to any of those other teams left on the schedule

Anyone remember the expected return date? I think it was around Thanksgiving

Church?
I figure maybe for the Vikings game if it goes the 6 weeks. But knowing how cautious this team can be, it will be the following week.
Unless, as I posted he can play with a soft cast type thing.

Yeah, really I'd be fine with a later return - as long as we have him for the final stretch and playoffs

I think it's fairly obvious what Jerry wants to do. Public pressure won't allow him to at this time . He'll continue to wait for a greater opportunity to reinsert Romo.

Jerry said" Romo is one of the greatest QB in NFL history" . He didn't say that of Dak.

Jerry added" I'd regret Romo not having an opportunity to play for a Super Bowl".

I believe it's very clear Jerry's intentions.

I've felt from the beginning of this controversy Jerry would find a way to screw this up. And I still think he will. I'm just not sure if that will be by leaving Dak in or bringing Romo back. Lol

What if the coaching staff feels the same way about Romo returning to the starting lineup?
