I think it's fairly obvious what Jerry wants to do. Public pressure won't allow him to at this time . He'll continue to wait for a greater opportunity to reinsert Romo.

Jerry said" Romo is one of the greatest QB in NFL history" . He didn't say that of Dak.

Jerry added" I'd regret Romo not having an opportunity to play for a Super Bowl".

I believe it's very clear Jerry's intentions.

I've felt from the beginning of this controversy Jerry would find a way to screw this up. And I still think he will. I'm just not sure if that will be by leaving Dak in or bringing Romo back. Lol
Imagine the backlash if, whichever one, loses a playoff game or the Superbowl. The second guessing will never end. Never

Romo gets activated on Thanksgiving. He will play mop up at some point and start if 1.) an injury or bad loss, 2.) meaningless game late in year once/if home field clinched (I hate to write this yet!)

M

Im uncertain who gets the final say but I have a feeling who does. How about you?
I say Jones has his share of input in all franchise actions. He is the general manager, president and CEO of narcissism after all. However, it would be prudent that observers not make final proclamations about what will eventually unfold. What appears as certain sometimes isn't. Take Manziel for example. Some people seemed to bet their entire life savings on Jones drafting Johnny Football. One intervention by his son and POOF! No Manziel. It happens.

So it's not "Tony's team" as so many have confidently insisted?

Meaning..

If we're down 17 points and Dak has hit a wall then Romo will come in and save the day...

Romo will come in at some point this year.

I don't know when but he will come in and he will rip up whatever defense is across from him.

The later he comes into the season the greater the risk of sinking the ship. At some pt he's going to need a few games to get up to game speed and to get comfortable again. You would hate for that to be in week 14 where in a few wks it's the postseason.

I think they're mostly scared about starting a healthy Romo and he's rusty or struggling and they have to make the decision to bench him for Dak.

Some people appear stuck on Romo subbing for Prescott during some point of a particular game because of poor play but I disagree. I think three other possibilities are more likely:

  1. Romo never starts (2016 would be his final season in Dallas/Jets maybe..?)
  2. Romo starts following a game-ending injury to Prescott (I'm going to hell for that one)
  3. Romo starts a game that Garrett announces far in advance of that particular contest (no "game time decision")
Well see (stops typing and calls on behalf of the thread for lodging reservations in the Quarterback Zone).

At first I thought leaving Dak in was the right move but if Romo's healthy I'm leaning to bringing him back.

I'm not privy to all of the info, etc that our coaching staff and front office is.

I can only speculate like others not as close to the situation. But I do think I have a pretty good instinct on what Jerry wants to do. Or his preference.

And I'm not always certain I can trust Jerry's decision . Obviously his priorities are often out of whack with underlying agendas or he wouldn't have insisted on maintaining his GM status.

Well Dak, if you do end up hitting a wall or having a bad game (that eventually leads to Romo starting) can you please do it against Baltimore or Tampa?

I don't think I could stand losing to any of those other teams left on the schedule

As much as I hate to admit it, I'll take a loss to the hated Steelers (and/or the Ravens) before I'll take a loss to any remaining NFC team on our schedule.

Bold --> I think Jones made that crystal clear to everyone by his rhetoric and actions back before he and Jimmy Johnson split ways. Well, I read him right back then at least.

I cant even imagine the size of the chip on Romo's shoulder right now. He has never had this kind of competition for his job. I think, if Romo is better in practice put him in, its that simple. I dont just hand him the job at this point, Dak has earned at least to be beaten out.
The reports are that Romo is always better in practice--from preseason to even just running the scout team. It's not even extremely close. He is the better overall player.
That will not do it.
Dak is leading a team that's 7-1. And doing a damn good job of it.
I really think it's now out of Romo's hands.
The only way he gets back in is if Dak lays several eggs or gets hurt--and I don't wish that on him or the team.

I'm not one who bit on the Manziel rhetoric. I think most misinterpreted Jerry on the matter. Even on draft morning press conference he spoke on why he wouldn't not only draft Manziel but use a high pick for a QB because it would signal the end for Romo.

Jerry only made his remarks about Manziel in case he became a good QB. He wanted others to think he recognized potential talent . Basically covering his butt if Johnny worker out so he wouldn't be criticized for not taking him.

As you should
Those games are much more important.
In fact, it's possible that if they swept 3 games and lost all others, they'd still win the division.

IF this hadn't been "Tony's team" this would never even bee debated. How big of a positive presence do you have to have been on and off the field for a team to be wrestling with sitting a rookie QB playing as well as Dak is on a 7-1 team.

The fact that this is hard is the biggest testament to Romo's standing with the team.

Perhaps. The whole Stephen/Jerry confrontation story over Manziel may have been fabricated.

I've always thought that Jones speaks his mind whenever the urge hits him. His comments may be casual, calculated or outright stupid. Depends on the topic in question. As far as decision making goes, I don't believe Jones has been nearly as dictatorial as some continue to think he is for nearly twenty years now. Overlordy? Sure. Willing to listen and act on others input from his inner circle? It's not a common opinion but I think so.

So "Tony's team" now means "big...positive... presence" rather than the indispensable and unquestioned starting QB of the Cowboys? Things have changed indeed.
