Maybe Jerry is less involved now... we can all hope!
Wow. Dallas hasn't made a bad deal all offseason. Henry Melton, Terrell McClain, Jeremy Mincey, Brandon Weeden, Ryan Williams, Amobi Okoye, Uche Nwaneri, and now Rolando McClain are all here on low risk, high reward deals. It's almost like Jerry Jones has learned his lesson....
You are correct but would say only Melton would be considered a "steal" out of the group. Down the road I hope to hit on more talent with good deals similar to Melton but that is probably not common enough to gauge. It is rare to come across talents willing to sign for those types of deals. They are all good deals financially even if I don't love all of the players selected. Next off season should be a real test considering the talent expected to be available and the increased cap room available to the team again.
Initially didn't like it but the team did a good job of covering themselves. If anything, he will have to really "outshine" the competition (Holloman/Hitchins/Durant) to even be considered to make the team given this compensation arrangement. Good job Jerra
What does he have to do to really "outshine" these guys? If he makes the cut and contributes is giving up a 6th too much?
I really don't know if he will be a game one starter.
Yeh we really need Melton to be what everyone knows he can be,...good thing we have Ben Bass just in case! ...and Cole Beasley.
Well, they certainly haven't gotten the defense right. Two straight years of historically bad defenses.
I meant more that the team would likely part ways if he doesn't really outperform the current group which isn't a guarantee given his flaky past. Why keep him otherwise kinda thing?
Well, yeah, he was a top 5 pick in the draft. He obviously has talent. The problem is, and has always been, between the ears with this guy. He is going to take significant snaps away from Holloman or Hitchens in the preseason. If McClain ends up not making the team, it's going to be a huge blow having to roll with an inexperienced Hitchens or Holloman.
I see no risk at all. If we get someone that contributes to the team, we swap meaningless picks. If we don't, we lose nothing. This is just a couple GMs trying to get cute for the sake of being cute.Basically it isn't a Risk-Reward deal, it's a Reward-Risk deal. If we get no reward, we have no risk. If we have low reward, we give low risk. If we get medium/high reward, we give slightly more risk, but still low.

IRVING, Texas -- According to multiple sources, if McClain, who was acquired Tuesday, does not make the team or is not on the Cowboys' 53-man roster for five games or 46-man game-day roster for three games in 2014, then the Ravens will not receive any compensation.
As it stands right now, the trade calls for the Cowboys to give up their seventh-rounder in 2016 if McClain is on the 53-man roster for five games or 46-man roster for three games only if their pick is better than the Ravens' pick in the round. If it is, then the teams will swap selections. If the Ravens finish with a worse record in 2014, then there is no swap.
If McClain plays in 50 percent of the defensive snaps in 2014, then the Ravens would receive the Cowboys' sixth-round pick in 2015 and the Cowboys would receive Baltimore’s seventh-round pick in 2015.

Looks like a completely free look to me! What say you?
