Hate to disappoint balty but an agreement doesn't have to be made by July 15th being he's tagged. This could easily resume after the 2020 season. IF there even is one.

Oh man make it stop, ESPN and fox sports will be unbearable.

With that being said, I don't know what Dak can do to "win you over" in this situation. There are two sides to the negotiation, so I don't think its fair to expect Dak to sign a contract he and his agent feel is undervalued just so the fans can feel good about it. Maybe if the Zeke thing didn't happen, you wouldn't feel this way, but Dak did everything sports fans ask players to do and its not enough.

1. Humble himself-check
2. Answer the call during "next man up" situation- check
3. Perform similarly or better than his peers -check
4. Wait til his contract, which he had almost no leverage in negotiating the first time, runs out- check
5. Participate in good faith negotiations along the way-check
6. Sign franchise tender, with no signs of holding out or missing workouts- check
7. Side with management on controversial issues-check
8. Always available and has played through injury-check

I’m sure he feels this is the way to go, and that’s absolutely his right. But it comes at a cost if it means the negotiation drags out over three seasons.

Demarcus Lawrence is another deal in that category. Sure, using his surgery as leverage made good tactical sense for the negotiation. It hurt his play on the field, though. There’s a perception price that comes with that.

We’ll see what deal Dak ends up with. But I’ll be comparing it to a guy like Amari, who I think plays at a similar level at his position group. Amari handled his negotiation the way I’d prefer to see Dak handle his. Maybe that worked out in the team’s favor, I’m not sure. It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out, though.

Dak deserves every penny he can get, and I don’t begrudge him his foot-dragging on this second contract. But I will say that the constant reminder that this is just a business to our players or to our team leader takes a lot of the enthusiasm I once had for this group of players way down.

Zeke’s holdout was worse in that regard, as it was a year early and a huge distraction that contributed to the disappointing 2019 season.

To Dak’s credit, he’s signed his franchise tender. But the whole thing just makes me care a lot less whether this particular group of players gets their title shot. I mean, I want the titles because I’m a fan, but this group of guys—the offensive team leaders, at least—have made their priorities really clear. It’s kind of a bummer.

Bidness is bidness.

But if Dak looks like a short timer, it will be natural for fan investment in him to crater.

Shouldn't have signed Lawrence, and his shoulder hokey pokey should have clinched that.

I thought Zeke, as a RB, needed to hold out. The NFL screws top RBs on their rookie contracts. So I didn't hold it against him. But I wouldn't have paid him that high either.

With Dak, I see it as bidness. He's not doing anything dirty. But if he plays on the tag, he's not gonna sell as many jerseys.

Cooper was done right on both sides. Cooper could have turned the screws more, but he seems to like it here and maybe values the Star more than other players. Which is sensible.
