The final number has been $57-58 for two years. Both sides are just quibbling over a couple million on AAV and probably a bit on guarantees.

It's no different than when his number was obviously going to be ~$40m last time.
Yeah thats the problem.

They knew this for years. Yet waited for "leaves to fall" and sat out of free agency only to end up signing him long term again.

If you were going to let him walk and eat the cap. Ok then I get it for not doing a thing in FA. But to sit out of FA only to then free up cap space a month before the season is terrible on the front offices part. Its actually trolling the fan base to be fair.

Well I mean the flip side is that Dak is playing the same game.

It's not like Dak had any incentive to sign early.

Our FO is playing the GM stalling tactic, in a weak attempt to wear down Dak and his agent.
Ultimately, they'll just pay up, as usual. From the very beginning, it was comically predictable:grin:

He will not be signing for less than $200 million guaranteed pay.

They do. But have you seen our last three postseason losses. Dak has arguably had the most talent help on offense in the last three years year but you can’t tell. Its one thing to lose but our losses haven’t even been competitive on offense
Did you see the playoff game they won?

Did I miss something? Sorry if this is a repost...........

One Person only.

NO trade option!

My sources tell me that there is still talking about the length of the visit.

Dak wants to stay from 12 to 15 o clock. Where as JJ wants to shorten the deal.

I mean not really. A top 10 QB is worth drastically more than any other position. There are maybe 16 franchise level QBs in the NFL and those are the only 16 teams that have a chance to do ANYTHING in the playoffs beyond sneak in and get bounced in the first round. History shows this. Having one of the 16 does not guarantee success but not having one means you wont have that success barring an all time great defense (spoiler those are very rare). You dont need Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, or Lamar, but you do need a franchise level guy. Them being that rare means they get paid like it.

As an example the Vikings just paid Jefferson 35m and despite being in playoff contention after a rough start (before Cousins got hurt), they are not a true playoff contender anymore because they dont have that guy. They are now considered the 4th best team in that division and the top 2 teams both have that guy. When you go around the NFL, the favorites in just about every division are teams with the guy at QB and the teams that are expected to do poorly do not have that guy.
For grins, what do you think the delta is between playing Dak + CeeDee, and playing a borderline starter QB like say Aiden O'Connell + CeeDee + Justin Jefferson? All else equal, I don't think your passing offense would lose much.

The thing is wether the offer was "Fair" or not, its been pushed to a "Deadline (jerry's favorite)" that favors the other side, Why would Dak's camp be in any hurry to sign a deal even a "Fair" one?

This does not even need to be a hypothetical as we have a real world example of a QB a tier below Dak who had 2 elite WRs in Hill who might be the best WR in football and Waddle who is absolutely top 10. It was a dynamic offense... until it wasn't. People want to talk about Dak struggling against good teams but his numbers kind of mirror other (non Mahomes) QBs. If you want to see a struggle look at Tua in December when the games matter. Look at that playoff game. Now even though Tua is a mediocre starter (probably 15th or so) going from 15th to 25th is going be a larger dropoff than swapping in Jefferson for Waddle.

Its the inverse of the Rodgers in GB problem. Rodgers in Green Bay could get them a lot of wins against the bad teams and even the decent teams. The problem was that their offense just did not have as much talent to overcome great defenses (the playoffs tend to have those) so their teams struggled to get over the hump. Teams need a great QB, or they become the Dolphins or Texans of a decade ago or the Broncos in the year before they got Manning (I could keep going but this is enough), but teams also need great weapons to go with that QB or they simply will be overwhelmed by teams that have the QB and the talent. Its the pairing that makes you a true contender. Without it you are either one of the many teams that are a QB away or one of the teams that is close but not quite there.

I'm sure the Jones first checked Craig's List and Amazon for starting QB's before making the offer.
