Coaches seem to like Bernadeau's upside better than Livings. I think they are hoping that a healthy Bernadeau in workouts and camp will make for a better prepared player. We really never saw the physical player they thought they signed.Nation;5011822 said:Livings was always guaranteed to be back here, Bernie I still think will depend on who else is brought in

Name those 10 top lines. I'm betting that some of them have some pretty ordinary starters.burmafrd;5011884 said:lets hope they do not have to start them again next season. If nothing else they are decent (for us) depth. Sad fact is that 4 of our 5 starters probably would not be decent depth for the top 10 O lines in the NFL.

In the past, the primary method of keeping the current year salary cap in check was through Signing Bonuses that were prorated over the life of the contract (max 5 years).TheCount;5011993 said:Yes, they'll be back. The fact that we had to rework those contracts after just signing them last year is pitiful but the fact of the matter is that QB's are killing teams' caps. If you've got a good QB, chances are you're going to have to constantly be juggling the other contracts.

Now, the Cowboys are using a 2nd method. They give players large guaranteed base salaries for the 2nd year. After the 1st year, they automatically restructure the 2nd year base into a restructure bonus that can be prorated over 5 years. Sometimes they guaranteed the 3rd year base salary also.
They were able to get Brandon Carr's 1st year salary cap number to 3.6M using this method.
Basically, they most likely planned to restructure Livings' and Bernadeau's contracts just like they had planned on doing with Carr's contract.
