Thanks for your reply as well, it was thoroughly inconsequential.

It was a direct question, which you completely avoided. You know what questions are. It's the answers that are supposed to be of consequence.

Face it: your post was more baseless criticism of something that doesn't merit any criticism. When confronted with it, you fall back on 'well they shouldn't have signed those players anyway' which, obviously was not the point of the thread, and obviously wasn't the point of your earlier criticism.

The reality is that the original contracts were designed for exactly the purpose of converting them the way we did today. There's nothing remotely 'pitiful' about them being 'reworked,' and we both know it.

I honestly felt at least one of these guys would have been cut by now. But Jerry's comments the last few weeks about the line leads me to believe he is willing to give this another shot without Free and a healthy Costa. I hope I'm wrong but things are trending that way.

we all know that thinking Costa was ready to start in 2011 was probably the biggest single mistake made in that pre season.

But Jerruh will never admit it. You look at how he has touted other players that ended up not getting it done (Roy Williams 2 for example)

He continues to talk up each and every component of a below average offensive line and is proven wrong time and time again.

From the coaching to the sub-standard starters, to the even worse backups, all the way up to his most recent foot-in-mouth comments about Romo.

It's obvious that the problems start 'at the top' when it comes to the offensive line issues.

Now you're further committing to the spares you signed last year who couldn't get the job done and the 'Support Squad' is out in full force attacking anyone who dare not think that this is the right move.

Than you for restarting what was already stated but in a less informative and less constructive manner, I don't know what I would do without you. Funny that you only seem to pop up when you feel I'm being critical, like someone elected you the Opinion Police.

No one thought he would suck THAT bad.

Still amazing how Cowboys fans are the only fans in the NFL who believe every good offensive requires some combination of 5 former first round picks and/or premium free agents with $30 million in guaranteed money.

Livings was always guaranteed to be back here, Bernie I still think will depend on who else is brought in
jerry has said he wants another guard/ center type player. that guy will likely compete with bernie. livings will keep his job and parnell will start.
i expect some competition for bernie and another tackle from somewhere to be the swing guy

for all of you who think Dallas has a handle on the salary cap and is doing it the right way....your talking about guaranteed money for Nate Livingston, Mackenzy Bernadeau and Ryan Cook. Three players who would be at best back up OL for Baltimore or 49ers (assuming they even made it out of their TC). Dallas because of their amazing ability to manage the cap (according to some) now has an interior offensive line that rivals a high school football team.

I expect Bernadeau to be our starting center, unless we find good value in the draft. I think they'll look to upgrade at RG--to help out Parnell. Can't replace everybody so that means Livings is safe as well.

So yeah, I think it's safe to say the team is still relying on Bernadeau and Livings.

Nate Livings is a solid NFL guard. Mackenzy Bernadeau is at least a compentent guard/center combo backup and Ryan Cook is a super sub that can fill in at 4 positions along the OL in a pinch. Every team in the NFL looks for those roles, so it's no big surprise that the Cowboys are "counting" on them. The difference is every other team's fans realize those players for what they are and appreciate their value in what they are, while Cowboy fans think any offensive lineman who wasn't a former 1st round pick and/or was signed to $30 million guaranteed is OMGZ TEH SUXORS!!111111

When logic fails you, you hyperbole and exaggeration.

Maybe I'm just flat out missing something, but I'm failing to see the logic in huge second or third year base salaries to trigger automatic restructures. What's the difference between that and a normal base salary/larger bonus, since that's what it turns into anyway? Why not just skip the extra step?

This gives more flexibility. You don't have to automatically trigger the restructure. If you have an abundance of cap space you can just keep the guy at his guaranteed base and not convert to bonus. Also, for really big deals it allows you to extend out an extra year -- so the SB would be spread over 2012-2016 whereas the converted salary in 2013 is spread 2013-2017

What's hyperbole and exaggeration? Any offensive linemen the Cowboys aquire will be deemed to automatically suck unless they take them with a Top 40 pick and or sign them as a premium free agent. Just like Livings was, despite the fact that he's a solid NFL starting guard. For fans, offensive line play is almost 100% based on name recognition and perception. Welcome to teh intrawebbings, I'll be your guide.
