I've always thought they'd be able to compete.

I never thought Livings was that bad at all actually... I thought he played pretty well. I felt that the problems came from the C, RG and RT. So I think if we upgrade the C, RG, RT the line should actually be pretty good.

What's hyperbole and exaggeration?

The entire thing.

Nobody is suggesting using every premium pick on offensive line.

They signed two spares last season that even their own teams didn't want back. And they got the expected results from that level of player - mediocre.

Any offensive linemen the Cowboys aquire will be deemed to automatically suck unless they take them with a Top 40 pick and or sign them as a premium free agent.

Sad fact is at your description has a history of being accurate. When they haven't done that, they have failed. That's why we're here.

Just like Livings was, despite the fact that he's a solid NFL starting guard. For fans, offensive line play is almost 100% based on name recognition and perception. Welcome to teh intrawebbings, I'll be your guide.

'Solid' by who's definition? Like Bernardeau, he's a mediocre lineman who his own team didn't want. We paid for mediocre and that's what we got.

If you think our offensive line play has been good enough, say so.

I do not.

By anyone who takes the time to watch film and evaluates offensive linemen, by the NFL that's made him a 4 year consecutive starter, and by the free market that deemed his market worth to be that of a solid starting offensive guard.

There is nothing hyperbole by what I said. If the Cowboys sign Donald Thomas, he will be immediately deemed to suck because only offensive linemen paid to $30 million guaranteed and/or first round draft pick offensive linemen could possibly be good.

There is no more in-depth analysis than that by most of the CZ hivemind, I'm sure a lot of whom would probably say that Evan Mathis is nothing special looking at his resume (assuming they know who Evan Mathis is without a Google search) and the fact that Bengals "didn't want him anymore".

Agreed. If we're being completely honest, he was our best lineman last year considering some of Ty's position switch issues. It's tough for a guard to look great, and he's had a decent season dumped on because of not being able to handle Geno Atkins.

So, by your definition, starter = good player. Now I know what your standards are.

You think so. The spares we signed last year got the benefit of the doubt until they proved they were just what people thought they were-spares.

They know that the results haven't been good enough. And that's more than the owner knows.

Ahh yes, just like every CZ thread, it all just devolves back to the call of the tard.

No film watching. No grading individual players. No breakdowns of play. Nate Livings iz teh sux because "Isn't it about time Jerry Jones the owner fires Jerry Jones the GM?"

...Funny that you only seem to pop up when you feel I'm being critical, like someone elected you the Opinion Police.

It's not personal. I pop up when any poster is overstating a criticism (eg, 'pitiful') that's demonstrably invalid.

I don't have any interest in policing you. In fact, I don't even know what that's supposed to mean. But I like posters with strong opinions. At the same point, I'm also allowed to dispute your take, aren't I?

and some always find an excuse to do nothing

Those that claim OTHERS want 5 Pro Bowlers on the line are those that want to do very little about the line.

Argue the results.

Nearly two decades of mediocrity.

It won't take long.

You are wrong some posters defend this mess despite the facts. The line will continue to be a big problem unyil the Cowboys take a different approach to team building and they will deny that fact.

And then there are some that whine, before any free agent pickups , or before the draft has even taken place.

No one defends anything. It's people like you and some others who whine about this team constantly in which grates on people's nerves. You can't go into a thread without someone whining about this team or Jerry Jones. A lot of fans know the Cowboys have been mediocre for a while, but they decide to not whine about it every second of every day and talk about what this team can do to improve itself. But you can't do that because people come into every thread and spew the same whining, "I hate Jerry Jones" spew. It's extremely annoying because you can't discuss football anymore around here. It's impossible.

And that's what the excuse-makers label any criticism - 'whining'.

A vain and failed attempt to undermine its accuracy and validity.

The great part about this forum is that you can talk about anything you want, pro or con.

When that stops, I'll stop coming here.

This is a place to discuss Cowboys football. When the hell was the last time you discussed anything remotely about football? All you do is come on here and remind people that we've been mediocore for two decades. You think everyone doesn't know that? Trust me we all do, but we don't talk about it in every thread. You act like the Cowboys will never win anything yet you remain a fan. It makes no sense.

There's plenty of valid criticsm on this site that's never labeled 'whining.' And then there's whining. It's not too hard to separate the two.

There's an ignore button.

If you have such an issue with my opinions, feel free to use it.

I'm disgusted by how my favorite team is being run into the ground and I have every right to discuss it.

Blame the people responsible, don't blame the people not happy about it.

I don't see much difference between the two groups, but that's great.

Everybody gets to believe what choose to believe. It's obvious enough who's believing things for good reasons and who's uninformed on any particular topic.
