The Dallas Cowboys will never go as far as the current owner will allow. He is the constant that impedes progress in the team. The irony is that he has done well in building the team as of late but ultimately becomes the reason the team can't succeed. I guess the proof will be in the pudding when Garrett goes to the Giants (or wherever) and is a success. Just who, in their right mind, is going to come in and try to run a professional football team with the owner nipping at every decision, thought or team policy in the organization? How do you overcome the contradictions and media chaff that he spews on a regular basis? Garrett isn't the best game managing coach, but he sure isn't the biggest problem the franchise has from a winning standpoint. One conversation with Jimmy Johnson will tell you that.
Is he embarrassed? Hell no. You need to get your act together if you think he wants anyone to believe that. Thus, the fact he isn't should tell you all you need to know. He just wants to prop up the perception that the team CAN win football games. That supports merchandise sales. As long as there is hope, there is commerce. THAT is his bottom line. So many football players wasted. So many opportunities lost. I guess the real test of the fanbase is how much misery you can withstand and still call yourself a fan. I'll keep on supporting the team, but only in the hopes that the current owner either gives up the GM job or just goes away. Then again, who knows what we have in Stephen Jones. Time will tell. GO COWBOYS!
