This work reads as more than a bit extreme, but I think it's obvious that a conscious decision was made not to rework this contract. And others as well.
I don't think this means that Bryant is headed out the door, but rather that that the team wants to have the flexibility to get out of contracts in the future if they so desire. It's a smart strategy. If you're going to rework deals and get locked in long term, you'd better be sure.
It's one thing to rework a Tyron Smith or Travis Frederick deal, it's another to rework everybody and be stuck. Pay as you go has its advantages too. Gives the team flexibility as mentioned, and also keeps players motivated.
Once the Romo contract is off the books, the team will have a lot of cap room and flexibility. I hope that they use it wisely, with a view on the big picture rather than money burning a hole in their pockets.
