Are The Eagles delaying the release of T.O. to mess us up?

IF we are indeed going to make the move to sign T.O. when he is released then maybe that's why we are not signing anyone. Saving the needed cash to lock him up for a 3 year contract with a $10-15 million signing bonus.

Could it be that the Eagles know this and are waiting until the last second to let T.O. go because they know he's coming here and by delaying his release that may allow other teams to pick up free agents that we want because we're not going to move until T.O. is signed??

This would only make sense IF T.O. is indeed our #1 target this off-season.

Stay tuned....

Thoughts?

I thought the deadline was Thursday?

They might as well wait and see if anyone gives up something for TO.

In any case, I don't think TO is what's holding up JJ. It has more to do with value, IMO.

I would imagine they'd wait until the last possible minute to see if they can get a trade.

That could be the case. Or they are trying to work something out with either KC or Denver so he won't be able to come here. Does he have a no trade clause in his contract?

Delaying the release of T.O. until the last minute before his roster bonus is due is simply a good business move for them. It has nothing to do with the "rumors" that the Cowboys are interested and more to do with them waiting until the last minute to see if they get an offer for him.

In fact, the rumors about the Cowboys wanting Owens probably helps the Eagles more than anything because there may be one or two teams out there who want him bad enough to trade something to the Eagles for him since if the rumors are true, they won't get him if he's released.

They are going to try and trade him to Siberia - but teams are going to balk because big bonus is due TO on Wednesday I believe.

But Yes, Eagles are going to keep TO off free agent market as long as possible $25M under cap and TO Money fully accounted for - Eagles could not cut him tomorrow!

If JJ is not signing FA's so he can potentially give TO a $15,000,000 Signing bonus he's a fool. 5-10 years ago he'd do that. Parcells won't let him.

We are nickel and diming All Pro future Hall of Fame calibre kickers and backup OLB's. Yet he's going to break the bank for a 33 year old problem child WR?????

Whoa -- hey...put away the conspiracy theories guys! I realize the agony you must be feeling anticipating arrival of TO; but really ...the only intentional hold up that I could image would be to negate TO from benefiting out of this whole situation.

Actually, I've heard another scenario ...holding off until the last moment to strike a deal with someone outside the NFCE -- not necessarily to slight the Cowboys, but to keep TO from making the mega-bucks you intend to pay him for embracing the Star {I could just hear TO now apolgizing and trying to explain to the Cowboy fans how he really didn't mean to disrepsect the Star, but he was just having fun} .

You are really a forgiving bunch who must really want TO badly ...huh!?

Well you'll know one way or another by Wednesday. Perhaps everything will work itself out ...or not!

Interesting theory, but I would hope that we were smart enough not to hinge our FA on a hunch that T.O. would've been released immediately.

I think we've targeted a couple more mid-priced players at OL, LB or FS and are waiting for the market ot settle. Hannam confuses me. We simply got out maneuvered for a kicker we wanted.

Philly is primarily motivated to get something for the cancer that has thrown their team into tunrmoil.

Maybe KC will cough something up for him and save us from ourselves...

They dont want him in the division. End of story. If they can get the Chiefs to give a 6th for him its better than what we will offer. Everyone knows that he will be cut. I believe he must be cut by the 15th for the roster bonus.

Just ask the Ravens how well that worked out.

If I'm KC and I'm thinking of trading for Owens, I better be sure he wants to play for the Chiefs. Trading for him does no good if he's going to threaten to hold out (see: Baltimore). I don't think it's as simple as the Eagles getting something in return to keep him out of the division. If he's hellbent on playing in Dallas, trading him to KC won't completely rule that out.

Philly is just waiting until the last minute since they can. It will be clear soon enough if Owens wants to play for Dallas or not.

again...dont be surprised if they pay the bonus...not saying it will happen, but it 1) buys them more time 2) makes him easier to trade somewhere else because that team isnt paying the 5mil bonus and 3) keeps him from Dallas

wont shock me in the least, they have the cap money and Lurie has the $$$

I thought he had to be cut by the 14th?

The TO to Dallas clan is in for a club to the head!

Not happening for many reasons.

I have been raising this as a very possible option for the Eagles. Keeps him off the market till they get equal trade value.

Throwing away $5 million in that manner is absurd. You waste cap space (why not spend it on locking up younger stars for the future?), you don't improve your team, and you don't guarantee that Owens won't be playing for Dallas anyway.

I'm sure Lurie would much rather put that money towards the debt he accumulated buying his team than give it to Owens so he can buy another house with a basketball court.
