Are there any great RTs with Martin's measurables?

I can agree with this. I guess for me, his weaknesses are hidden at RT because his strengths are used more there. Those weaknesses would be exposed at RG. If guys can get under him at tackle, it will be a daily occurrence at guard.

You can sit down more in the interior than on the edge so I think he can play. I think we'll get a year out of him and he'll be gone. Depends on Weems, Parnell, and Martin as well as where to play Martin. Too many variables to make predictions yet.

free is not a free agent next year. he is signed for 15 and 16 at 8 mil a year

Incorrect. Those years have voided as part of him being on the roster at the start of this league year. They are just for cap purchases.

EDIT: Looked it up. Doug free is listed at 34" arm length at 6'6". Martin at 6'$" listed at 32 7/8"

I personally think the arm length thing is blown out a little bit, and from what I've been watching, I do like Martin's anchor better than Free's.

Martin is six foot money?

How long were Larry Allen's arms?
He was a prototypical OG, drafted as such, went to pro bowl as such, and only moved to LT after Tuinei retired. he was pretty good. :)

I felt like it was a very good pick. He can theoretically play every position on the O-Line and can contribute right away. If we put him at LG, that's a fearsome left side with Tyron, Martin and Frederick, That would probably mean Benardeau starting at RG and he came on nicely last year. And I thought Free played well overall last season. He was atrocious in 2012, but came back nicely. I think the switching around from LT to RT back to LT and then back to RT hurt him. I honestly feel that with O-Linemen in this league, they need to stick with 1 position and max out their potential at that particular position before they move on. And if you switch them around, even if it is from LG to RG, the switch can be troublesome if they are not ready for it.

If we have him at RG, I'm guessing Leary will be the starter and Benardeau can be the nice backup between the LG, RG and Center positions. It gives us more flexibility with what we want to do with Free in 2015 whom we could re-sign to a small deal and even move Free to RG and switch Martin to RT.

I don't trust Garrett and Linehan with QB's. I don't like how Romo was handled under Garrett and how Stafford was handled under Linehan. So instead we got Martin who is under one of the very best O-Line coaches in Callahan. And if Garrett is fired after this year, the new coach can come in with a fairly solidified O-Line.

I think Martin would be decent at Tackle but possibly Pro Bowl at Guard. Next year take your RT.

The Giant's Justin Pugh is a perfect example of what we can probably expect of Zach Martin assuming he lives up to his promise. Like Martin, Pugh has short arms (Shorter than Martin I believe) . He also played mostly on the left side in college and transitioned back to the right side for his first NFL season. Martin will have to make the same adjustment.

Pugh managed to play the entire season at right tackle and did a solid job, showing steady improvement as the season went on. He could possibly be a Pro Bowl tackle next season and is definitely the Giants best OL player now.

Here are Pugh's 2013 stats according to ESPN: http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/15808/justin-pugh

As you can see, he doesn't get many sacks but he had 3 tackles last year .;)

I think we can exect much, much more. Martin is much better technically, stronger and has better athleticism and is much more aggressive. I would be disappointed if we got the same kind of play from Martin.

I see Martin starting at OG day one and really giving us a boost at one of those two spots.

Well I am hoping for more as well. I guess what I should have added is there is no reason to expect that Martin will do any worse than Pugh did. But Pugh had a solid start at right tackle for the Giants and if Martin can at least perform as well as Pugh did then we are off to a good start. There would be nothing to be disappointed about there. If he does any better than thats just icing on the cake.

Agreed. No reason at all IMO. If we played him at RT, I think he would still be a Pro Bowl player. If we play him at RG, I think he's an All Pro type player. As I have said in several other posts. I honestly believe he is a younger version of Logan Mankins.

Free has never been great. He's never even been really good. What he's been is overrated by a fan base who doesn't understand what they're watching. A front office too. When he has help, he's "good". When he doesn't, he's exposed as the mediocre player he's always been.

A truer assessment cannot be said about said player.
The guy requires help to be effective- that should speak volumes.

Measurement geeks won't like him because of the arms. But fact is, Joe Thomas has 32 1/2. Jake Long 32 7/8.

Arm length is just like WR height. Yes, you want optimal measurements. But if the WR can get open, who cares? With a lineman it is the same. The strength of their initial punch and their footwork, if top shelf, can minimize the loss of advantage with their reach. It is just idiotic how much stock is put into it when you have an upper echelon player who does all the other things right. If you are talking a less talented player, then you want the measurements to be closer to the preferred standard.

It's about overall length (arm length and height).

Joe Thomas and Jake Long are both 6-7. Martin is 6-4.

It does not really matter if Martin can play OT, because he will be better at OG. Larry Allen could play OT, but spent all but 1 year of his career at OG.
