This is often a measurement for a HC’s success.

Are we in a better place now in 2025 than when McCarthy took over in 2020 ?

Im not sure we can argue that. We probably were in a better place during those 12 win seasons but now .. IDK.

Your thoughts …
that awesome OL and running game are long gone.

The Cowboys are in no different a place because the hires were yes men knowing when they were hired they had little to no power in the organization. Imagine a a HC coming in and telling Jerry the QB he signed had to go and the cap would be hit hard and a rebuild was needed. Never happen in Dallas yet that’s exactly what happened in Denver. The way it works in Dallas is simple Jerry tells his HC who the assistants will be who starts who’s drafted when to start meetings so Jerry can attend, Jerry needs to sign off on the game plan and players come to Jerry with complaints and problems and all media coverage is through Jerry. Jerry is Dallas and all those saying he’s not in full control are blind. The narcissistic personality of Jerry just doesn’t allow him to believe he is in anyway responsible for the failures that’s why the last 20 years there has been back stabbing and scapegoats.

Don’t go away, this place isn’t the same without you. I have no one to argue with that understands.
Someone's radar is about to go off and challenge you for your comment towards me lol, thanks man appreciate it!

Greg, my answer is we are in the same position as we were when the Clapper left. We have an old, arrogant fool running everything and refusing to change. Until THAT changes we are perpetually the same.
We also are locked into a QB that is now the highest paid NFL player, 6 years older, playing like garbage and way more broken down. It can be argued that the team is in a much worse spot just because of that fact. A smart coach would believe that is very handicapping I would think.

In the last 30 years, think of the Hall of Famers talents we’ve wasted. The last half of Larry Allen and Darren Woodson’s careers; Demarcus Ware, Jason Witten and Zack Martin‘s careers. And probably Micah Parson’s career too.

Woody and LA won rings when they were pups but the rest of their time was wasted. Jason Witten had two WC playoff wins here and in 8 playoff games had 1 TD. Zack Martin was a part of 3 WC wins. Demarcus Ware saw a whopping one playoff win in his time here before winning a ring in Denver.

What a waste.
great post. And here's my question for everyone...

Does Jerry..

A) honestly think he is competent and under his guidance and control the team will eventually win a Super Bowl
or
B) in quiet moments he has thoughts that maybe he should get a football guy to run the team. But, if he does that and they have success, he will be forced to field questions about why this wasn't done 25 years ago.

Yes, at least potential changes as does opportunity renew. The departed had more than 3 years to leave his mark. His mark was good but not near top of shelves in any year, despite 3 twelve win seasons in a row. He lived off of long ago single Lombardi...with Green Bay.

He's not naive in business. Maybe a tough task master, but not a fool.

They are in a worse position now but it has nothing to do with the coach.

I think we are in a better place now. Minus the insane amount of injuries this season we were a likely playoff team. A one done playoff team but at least a playoff team.

I think we are in a worse place now. When McCarthy came on board we had a promising young QB. Now we have a fading injured QB on a huge, undeserved contract. On top of that Jerry seems to be losing his mind and taking greater control of the team. I have no idea why any coach with another option would take the Cowboys job.

Back in the early '90s there was no salary cap to deal with when acquiring the malcontent Haley from San Francisco, which just wanted to get rid of the headache. And when they signed Deion as a free agent in 1995 the Cowboys did not have to guarantee the majority of his salary.

I think with how the front office has talked about their cap situation as well as the extensions they're wanting to get lined up with players like Micah Parsons, this team is going to focus on value in the market and building through the draft.

I don't hate that approach, but now the question looms about what scheme is coming to Dallas and how a new regime is going to want the roster to look. So if that's the avenue this team is going to take, they've got to make sure they hit their targets.

(It took about 10 years to get a very strong Scouting Group.)

The departing Head Coach didn't have the ability to forge a Champion with his own skills to direct and lead his players. His remedies were out of date.
