Are we in a better place after McCarthy left than Garrett?

This is often a measurement for a HC’s success.

Are we in a better place now in 2025 than when McCarthy took over in 2020 ?

Im not sure we can argue that. We probably were in a better place during those 12 win seasons but now .. IDK.

Nothing has changed. The results will be the same.

Well we still need dts, still have the same problem with early playoff exits when we get there, and are a highly pentalized team. I would say we're in a similar spot.

Yeah it’s actually gotta be way worse in fact.

Five years ago, whether you bought into it or not, there was at least the HOPE that McCarthy would be able to take Dak to another level.

Where is that now? This team is so screwed it’s insane. Luckily, that’s exactly what’s needed long term. Welcome to 1984-89.

Maybe on defense, but that depends on the health of a few players. Parsons obviously is the centerpiece, but players like Overshown, Diggs and Bland are good building blocks (again, depending on health).

Lawrence was pretty much our only Pro Bowl-caliber player on defense when Garrett was fired. He, Lewis and Wilson are the only defenders left from Garrett's last year and one or two of them may be gone this offseason.

I mean, I know we need to build a better defensive line, but this was what we had to work with in 2019: Dorance Armstrong, Taco Charlton, Maliek Collins, Christian Covington, Tyrone Crawford, Trysten Hill, Kerry Hyder, Joe Jackson, Lawrence and Antwaun Woods. Our linebackers were Sean Lee, LVE, Jaylon Smith, Luke Gifford, Joe Thomas and Justin March.

The roster itself is much worse, thanks to Jerry’s inactivity last year. We have needs everywhere.

Whatever the answer is, you have to factor in that we spent 2/3 of the season starting a back up QB. What coach could have led us to a better record with Coop behind center? I would not have let MM walk.

A lot of coaches could have avoided getting boat raced by the #7 seed though.

MM was good this year in the worst situations, but he hasn't been good when things appear to be going our way.
