Are we just assuming the culture is good now?

If our favorite team was coming off a nice run of playoff wins over the last decade, I would be glad to see our front office and coaching staff craft our roster around keeping some key players that have been most influential in a bunch of playoff wins.

Problem is we have 2 wild card wins the last decade and a culture that has been questioned by those both inside and outside of this organization as being soft and not focused fully on winning football games.

Serious question- So why would this organization- almost yearly - decide the most important free agents to sign are “our guys”? Our guys who haven’t really an complished that much. Are we trying to keep the same culture and performance from “our guys” why would expect the results it to get any better?

Put another way, are we assuming “our culture is fine”? Is our FO really just convinced that this three decade playoff drought is just bad luck?

Because if there’s no learning or understanding about what’s wrong with this organization, how are we supposed to “believe” we have righted the ship in the right direction?

I’m hoping we have a great draft and sign some impactful FAs. But what about this team’s culture? Doesn’t it need addressing too?
BULLET!!!!
For the 1st time in Jerry's history of the NFL combine he cancelled his interview. This in and of itself is a sign that something has changed. Not sure it's the culture but age is defeating Jerry

I don't consider the culture to be a problem and never have. Philly's players were at each other's throats in 2023, with lots of bad blood between players and coaches. No one said a word about culture when the Eagles were winning last year.

I think culture is an excuse that fans turn to when talent is the real problem. This team has a talent problem created by its front office and the real question is whether the Joneses will actually do something about it by utilizing free agency to its fullest.

GM Jethro absolutely thinks his culture is fine.

I agree with you that the FO has not provided enough talent.

But when you say you think the “culture” thing is just a fan excuse, have you not seen the comments of former players who have said it’s an issue? Like Dalton Schultz, Peyton Hendershot, and Marcus Spears? They all have made it clear that there is something to that.

Completely agree.

Im not sure who believes our culture is fine?Of course it needs addressing. But it obviously isn’t going to be . Rinse and repeat.

If our hope is based on our culture changing we are dead at arrival. I’d argue our greatest hope is an outlier Wild Card contender. Maybe… lol

And that’s assuming we can stay healthy and address a few key weaknesses. It’s really time we adjust our expectations for Cowboys Football. Unfortunately, it is what it is.

They like their own players because they aren’t ‘comfortable’ investing tens of millions in players they don’t know personally, because they don’t do the actual GM work.

They rely on reports from others, which is probably why they tend to overrate players and the roster as a whole. Those assistants aren’t going to offer up bad reports on the 5th round picks they are supposed to be turning into stud starters.

I’d be stunned if they build this roster back to a contender before this gets much worse. If NY finds a QB, and all indications are that they will be after Darnold or Stafford, those gimme division wins are all gone.
3rd or 4th in our division is out of the playoffs with North and West deeper divisions.

We need to root for heavy injuries in Phil and Wash especially to Hurts and Daniels. That’s our best chance .

That is our best chance to draft pick in the 20's next year.

Problem is, to get to that game, we need a heady GM and a different philosophy. We've now gone straight back to paying a few stars a ton. That didn't work before and it won't work now.
100% agree. I’m one of those fans that doesn’t think we are capable of ever returning to the conf championship game w Jerry, Stephen, or anyone else named Jones. It’s literally business and usual, same old song and dance.

Shi tty is a comfortable hire for Jethro. My money is we will never see him head coaching again in NFL.

Yeah.. He’s a stop gap.

Front office knows we will be trash so no need to spend on a coach with the lack of talent.

Just take our lumps for a couple years.

No, it isn't age, its that Jerry doesn't have the balls to answer the tough questions. Everyone is turning against him, he knows it, so he's avoiding the media altogether like a spineless punk.

And there have been others who don't see it as an issue. I think it is one of those words that is thrown out when a team loses and fans/players are looking for a reason. Instead of acknowledging the real culprit (the Joneses' poor use of free agency), we apply culture or lack of leadership or something else that is less tangible to it.

Here's Dak after that Green Bay playoff loss:
“Yeah, the culture is high honestly, and the culture is great from my standpoint. . . . My point is that’s something I’ve bragged on and took pride in,” Prescott said. “So if there’s questions of that or concerns on that, I feel attacked. I’m sure some guys in the locker room do, but at the end of the day, it’s a business, and the way that this business plays out, people don’t get exactly what they want. There’s always sourness I guess you could say somewhere. I don’t want to make anything bigger than that.”

Here's Tyler Smith:

“I mean that’s who we are,’’ left guard Tyler Smith said after a 30-14 win over Carolina. “We’re never going to quit. We’re never going to lay down for anybody. That speaks to who we are, not only as individuals, but as men and as players.

“That’s our culture. Whether other people believe it or not, we’re going to come in there and fight all day, every day, anywhere, any place, any time.’’

Do they? Be the first accurate team evaluation they ever did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely not. We'll see. Don't think 30 years of uselessness changes in 2 months. Lets see what the next 2 seasons look like. I believe we'll see when they go on the road vs a top 10 team, do they fold up and hide as they did in 23 vs buffalo or SF or Philly or do they go toe to toe with them and fight. That, for me will be an indicator.
